What is Billy Corgan thinking?

He seems to be imploding at the moment. Seems to be dismantling all the credibility and power he has gained from creating some of the most powerful and mindblowing albums of our generation. Whatever you think of later Pumpkins albums, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are undeniably masterpieces and two of the most important albums ever made.
So whats with Billy? A Chicago Tribune article wondered the same thing last week.
What is he thinking? After they release Zeitgeist he continually bashes fans and even yells out "What do you want from us" in concert. He seems to be extremely bitter and angry towards Pumpkins fans.
He licences a new song for the trailer for Watchmen and licences Today for a credit card commercial. Its common these says for bands to do that these days. In fact, it seems most people these says arent discovering bands via MTV or the radio anymore. It seems its either online, or via tv shows and commercials. So while using Today on a commercial isnt off the wall crazy, it is crazy to see a member of the grunge scene, the early 90's groups, who railed violently against any type of commercialization and popularization of the music.
Whats interesting is how split Billy is. He seems to blame commercialization and being popular as being reasons why the 90's were so tough for him. The fact that Zero being a Zero used to mean something until it was a popular thing and ceased to mean what it originally meant. But then he uses songs in one of the most anticipated movies of the year and uses a song like Today which clearly is a painful, and poignant song and means alot to many people, in a crass credit card commercial. Outrageous to say the least
Then Corgan testifies in front of Congress and suggests the record industry is dead and bids it "good riddance" but then suggest the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger is a good thing.
And Jimmy Chamberlain quits. One could make a fairly cohesive and coherent case that he left because of Billy's off the wall antics as of late.
So, I ask,
What is Billy thinking?

Jimmy left? the Pumpkins are now dead. I saw them last year, and I could live without Darcy and James, but Jimmy's drums cannot be replaced. not sure what is going on with Billy, but hopefully the Archives project they have started will happen, because this band was incredible live in 1996 and 97.
who will open the live vault first, PJ or SP?
sadly, I think neither.

I saw him in '96 at a show. Half way in, he says, "Quite frankly, we almost canceled this show because it wasn't a sellout".
What a way to win over fans buddy.
I guess he thinks that by being an ass he will draw more attention to himself and sell records.
So...how's that working for you William?

I will agree he is a narcissistic pig except he is an amazing songwriter and has loads of talent, there you are wrong.
