I think we are reading to much into the baby thing, the main thing here is that the interview was conducted on January 20th 2009 and Ed clearly mentions that they will play shows this year because next year there will be no tour.

I can't see Pearl Jam to not play next year, 2010, to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band! They did the 10/22/00 anni, 10/22/10 will surely go down, right?

Here's how I see it, been reading it. etc.. Don't take my word though! :P

Pearl Jam members will be doing their solo gigs, side projects this year; as much as they can do. So far April/May, Ed's doing these appearances in NYC; Stone has been showing his stuff lately; Mike has his Flight To Mars show in May & maybe some cool goodies on the side with Shadow. Jeff & Matt, no word yet. D'oh! :( But during this time, '09, they have said it many times, they are in the studio, recording. They have families, kids, new babies coming! :) Things will slow down to get things done.

If it's an '09 tour, I could only see it happen during the fall, starting in November. A world tour to support their new record. Wasn't it this time last year, this week, we got the chance to score 10club tickets for the July '08 Pearl Jam East Coast Tour? What we might see is the new single hit the radio waves say June with tour dates to follow starting October/November. IMO.

Their official 20th anniversary is on 2011 though, they celebrated the 10th year anniversary from their first show but official band anniversaries are counted from the time they release their first album which would be August of 2011, and it seems that they are considering like that too because on all press releases they talk about the re-release of their catalog leading up to their 20th anniversary on 2011.

I mean a lot of things can change as far as what the band plans to do, but for what I understand going by what Ed said on that article its 100% clear to me, that they are playing shows on 2009 and none on 2010.

i like the way you think. :D i personally would far prefer a late fall/early winter tour. time-wise and finance-wise...would work FAR better for me, personally. work-wise, august thru september 15th totally out of the question for me, so definitely up for fall shows. i am really scaling back this year, so local shows only. i truly would LOVE to see pj in australia, but i definitely can't swing that until january or february, if at all right now....tho it would kill me to pass em up, again. last time they hit oz they had a show on my birthday, that was killer to not go. :P course, i just couldn't - work, $$$, etc....but damn, thus why i sooooo want to hit them up next time they go down under, besides which it has always been a DREAM of mine to go to oz.......so yeaaaa........ :D
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

Don't Ed's statements about not touring next year seem to contradict Jeff's recent statement about trying to figure out how to tour Europe within the next 18 months? :?:

not necessarily, 18 months is a long time. They could easily tour the N. America, Europe, and Australia over an 18 month span. That Jeff interview is pretty recent isn't it?

Ed contradicts his own statements LOL !!
Well we would really have to know the dates on each of these to draw a conclusion I'm guessing, I haven't read the interview with Jeff but was just listenin' to the interview with Alan Cross and Ed mentions that they are releasing the album this year and that they are planning on working all next year, meaning travel and playing shows DOH! .. so was this interview before or after they found out someone's wife was pregnant?
Because touring next year is totally opposite to the statement on the article I posted on this thread :?

I guess we are just going to have to wait for the trustworthy TWEET and hopefully it will be with enough time to plan travelling :)

I definately think that if there are shows this year as Ed mention on this article it will be a Fall/Winter and the tix would probably not go on sale until late summer..

    What do you guys think?

I think Ed was disoriented to time and thought January was still December (like a lot of people do) and perhaps forgot that it was actually 2009 and not still 2008... I don't know what that means :? They'll tour when they tour...and I will be happy :D when the time comes...

PS. Still can't believe that Ed named his baby after our sucky and ineffective Prime Minister...
    be philanthropic

The longer they take to tour (as long as its not to to long) it's fine with me, gives me more time to save more money :D

I think you are on to something... he could have been disoriented - lol - on the Alan Cross interview I think ;)
