what do you mean, figured it out? What does Merle Haggard have to do with the cassette tape?
:?
Alright I listened to the Momma Son tape. It has three tracks Alive, Once, and Footsteps. All I can say is Stone and Jeff must have been freaking out when they got it!
Alive - Is about 85% the same other than a few lyrics here and there.
Once - Is about 35% the same Ed talks alot during this version and a few lyrics are different.
Footsteps - Is about 95% the same just a few lyrical differences.
Just to give you a heads up I confirmed there is no side B so you don't need to waste you time there.
The tape itself is pretty cool I'd like to know what tape it was originally that Ed recorded over. On the top of the tape where it would normally list the songs Ed whited out all but "A friend from California" on the bottom every thing is whited out too except the letters that spell " Ed Die".

I have had the mp3's of both, the original music only version, and the 3 songs Ed wrote and sang lyrics too and sent back to Seattle.
My favorite part about having the pre-vocals and post vocals recordings is being able to hear someone sneeze in the pre-vocals recording at the beginning of Footsteps, and when Ed was recording his newly written lyrics over the music, he says "bless you" to who ever it was that sneezed.
And I don't think it says "Ed Die" as much as it just says "Eddie."

He could have used the original tape to play it whilst recording on another.

Ain't gonna be any middle anymore.
Transfered the instrumentals onto his 4 track , recorded his vocals, put the two together, and the rest was history.
It's so cool to have a replica of this tape!!
i agree... this is one of the things that is so special about this package... we get a piece of music history, literally... kudos to jeff for keeping it safe all these years. thank you jeff!!!!!
Thanks. That's more along the lines of what I suspected.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense at all!
Makes total sense. Did it many, many, many times during the age of cassette.
HAHAHAHA Ed Die hahaha funny
But if he played the original tape while singing, the new tape would record his voice AND the original tape that was playing.
Yes, THANK YOU JEFF!!!
