Best of 2008

1. Antony and the Johnsons - "Another World" (from the Another World EP) - One of the most heartbreaking and beautiful songs I've ever heard.
2. Mogwai - The Hawk is Howling - The best of the great Scot bands. Layers of thick beauty.
3. Mudhoney - The Lucky Ones - They just keep getting better and better and I'm not biased.
4. Tales of Terror - 1984 re-release of the shortlived great Sacto punk ROCK band.
5. Big Blue Ball - Big Blue Ball - Music from the Real World collaboration week...like the record, love the concept.
6. The Kills - Midnight Boom Great voice, heavy with a big dose of weirdness and one of the best guitarists on the planet.
7. Mastodon - TBT - I got a listen to their new record a few weeks ago...pushing the envelope of prog heaviness...Slayer meets Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.
8. Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Rapid Response. Phenomenal live band...great songs.
9. People! - Re-releases - Larry Norman's hippy god rock...I'm not a religious man, but this is special and weird.
10. Deranged Diction - Life Support & No Art, No Cowboys, No Rules - I'm biased, but it's pretty fucking good.
11. Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall - From 2007, but this hasn't left my record player since. Maybe my favorite live recording of all time.

Amen. Did anyone get it when it came with the DVD recording of it? I kicked myself afterwards, and have never seen it. Anyone know if it's any good?

i have the dvd, its shot on old style footage, looks to be mostly handheld stuff. focuses on neil the whole time. think Touring Band, older cameras, grainy footage, acoustic show, one performer, and no extra features....then you have it.

i think it compliments the show really well because it doesnt distract from the intimacy of the performance.

Here's a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5qRJrbT5rA (this is the trailer for it)

You should continue kicking yourself until you pick up the version with the DVD.
