Billboard just released their charts.

Looks like "Brother" just hit #1 on the Modern rock charts.

It's their 4th #1 behind "Daughter, "Who You Are", and "World Wide Suicide"

Not bad for a B-side that's nearly 20 years old.

Good job boys.

really? I only gave it half a listen when it was on the radio. not anywhere near their best work imho, but perhaps I need to give it another listen.

Speaking of the lyrics... anyone else really used to the old lyrics have a hard time getting used to the newer lyrics? I know I did at first... I think I'm ok now though.

    PROGRESS REPORTS

Pearl Jam earns its fourth No. 1 on the Modern Rock chart as "Brother" rises from No. 4 to No. 1. With last week's leader, Incubus' "Love Hurts," ranking at No. 2, Epic claims back-to-back No. 1s and the top two spots for the first time in the chart's 20-year history . . . "Brother," one of six unreleased tracks from the March 24 reissue of Pearl Jam's debut album, "Ten," follows the band's previous No. 1s "Daughter" (1993), "Who You Are" (1996) and "World Wide Suicide" (2006).

You've got to remember, this was still in their hey-day. They were coming off the success of Vitalogy and I Got Id and Long Road which, at least where I was at, both got a fair amount of airplay. Heck, I can even remember the local radio station playing Leaving Here and Gremmie a few times back then.

It doesn't really suprise me as Pearl Jam was still the biggest band in the world at that time.
Both "Who You Are" and "No Code" hit number 1 upon release but quickly dropped like a ton of bricks from the charts.

This was a transition perriod for Pearl Jam (as we all know) and it marked their polite and graceful exit from mainstream rock.

Pretty amazing when you stop to consider the ten year perriod between "Who You Are" and their next #1 "World Wide Suicide".

Look a how much rock music and mainstream music changed in that 10 year perriod.

i'm really proud of the band and It's cool to hear "Brother" getting some airtime.

"Brother" may not be best song in the world (hardly representative of the band today) but in comparison to bullshit music that currently sits below it on the rock charts...The fact that it has hit #1 makes me appreciate the song so much more.

I find it facinating that a throw-away B-side that's nearly 20 years old could generate that kind of airplay in today's radio market. It's practically un-heard of.

Anyways...It's fucking cool to see Pearl Jam classing up the joint once again :)

that single sold a lot when it came out. didn't get that much airplay but i think it reach #1 in the modern rock catagory based on the singles sales.

same thing happened with I Got ID/Merkinball, that actually reached #7 in Hot 100 list.

P.S. I heard "Brother" twice the last two days and I rarely listen to the radio while driving, so I'm assuming it's #1 via radio airplays because I don't think they released as an official single. Or did they do it as a promo single?

Of all of the songs PJ has released to radio, I think it has the least mainstream appeal. By far. I like the song, but I am surprised that it hit #1 on the mainstream rock radio charts.

dont get how its number 1...releasing a song that is 20 years old and not even their best work and is a decent song at best...its grown on me the past week when originally i thought it was outdated, which it kinda is

kudos anyway, whatever gets the word out there
