NYC Tips and Tourist Traps?

I know times square is a tourist trap but I like it..it's so exciting. I know a lot of people mention the WTC site but i can't bring myself to go there, and it upsets me when people name it as a tourist attraction. It's hallowed ground imo. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0

That's horrible, shame on them. These cuts are leaving creases. Trace the scars to fit the pieces, to tell the story, you don't need to say a word.0 -
I live in the East Village. A couple of things I can tell you. It is a waste of time to go to the WTC site, it is all fenced in and you can't see anything. If you are looking for things to do besides the touristy stuff here is a small list.
Head to the West Village, there you will find all sort of neat shops and cafes, including Washington Square Park. You could then head south to Soho and do some shopping. OR . . .
Head to Union Square, it where most NY'ers do their shopping. If you there on a Sunday feel free to engage in an argument with any of the other people standing around in the square. If you have a sweet tooth hit up the Max Brenner ( you can find them in other locations as well). If you don't have kids with you, head over to the East Village, where you will find bar after bar, restaurant after restaurant. You can also . . .
Walk down to St. Marks and Astor Place. Check out the haven of the Punk scene, and do some good people watching.
If that isn't you thing you can head to central park where you can easily spend a whole entire day.
In terms of Pizza, you absolutely have to go to Lombardi's in Little Italy. There is really no other reason to go to Little Italy other then Lombardi's.
If you want excellent Italian food check out a place called Crispo, 14th street between 7th and 8th avenues( if you go, you can thank me later). If you want some kick ass lasagna or gnocchi head to Max in the East Village (4 street & Ave.
There is a great place called the Donut Bar up the street from Crispo . . . great hangover killer.
If you are looking for bars here is my short list.
Zum Schnieder
The Gingerman
7b (Horseshoe bar)
The Underbar
If you are with a group, head to Astoria and go to the Beer Garden, rain or shine you will have a blast.0 -
Cant visit NYC and not mention a visit to Brooklyns Green-Wood Cemetery, designated a National Historic Landmark.
I would also suggest a Ranger game at Madison Square Garden ,
the Coney Island/Keyspan Park areas ,
and beautiful scenic Rockaway Beach , NYC .For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive

I'm going I'm going I'm going! I love the city so much and only get down there about 3-4x a year. Going to see Saul Williams with Les Claypool at Terminal 5. But then I have part of Sunday to play, and I have NO idea what I'll end up doing. I never do, but I always find something interesting. I will probably eat at Blossom. If I believed in Heaven, it would be New York City.R.i.p. Rigoberto Alpizar.
