CD/DVD Burner gone

this has happened to me before, and someone helped me out. I tried to burn a DVD and it says there is no recordable device. Help, please

    Have you checked to see whether the correct source drive is selected on your burning program?
    I have a burner and a dvd player, on Nero when you go to source you select which is the burning drive.
