The future of pearl jam according to Mike
First of all... Can't wait for the new music in 11 days, BUT.... 3 - 4 years between albums is too long.
I know they are almost 50, and Mike has said he doesn't want to be the rolling stones, so that means only 10 - 15 more years of Pj left??? so 3-4 more albums to come out after this one???
I know that all of them have said that their favourite tunes are from TEN, VS., VITALOGY. So like if their favourite tunes are early stuff what does that really say of their new stuff??? Especially if they don't want to be the rollingstones.
I'm depressing myself right now, please respond positivly BUT truthfully

This album is taking longer because (and this is what I have drawn from the board discussions):
The band wants to take their time with this album cause there is amazing creativity going on and Brendan O Brien is back on board as producer- so thats gonna be another big plus.
The band toured quite a bit between 2006- and 07.
The all did some solo stuff, records, shows ect.
It's all good man. Hopefully we will get an update soon.
EV Solo: 7/11/11 11/12/12 11/13/12
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
Stone: It would be thrilling if it happened if we all looked at each other 10-20 years from now and went how did we do this. Wed have to play a crotchety Evenflow with disco brushes. (Laughs) Our fans are gonna be so old theyre not going to be able to hear us anyway so maybe we can be video transformed to look 30 years younger
Matt: I just dont want to become the Rolling Stones
Mike: I dont think theres any way we thought our band would last 20 years. Were still talking. Its incredible.
Jeff: Its pretty insane that weve lasted 20 years. At the start I guessed we might make 3 or 4 records, have a little bit of success and we would have gotten to play with some of our heroes. Probably the biggest fringe benefit is that weve shared stages with Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, REM, Neil Young, the Rolling Stones and Frank Black the list goes on and on. Thats the little kid dream come true being able to play with all those incredible bands and artists that we grew up loving and we still love.

what new music is out in 11 days? have i missed something? :?:
Off The Ramp LP?!! Better pinch yerself cos you're dreaming!
As much as I would like 2 albums a year I think breaks help keep some bands together.
As far as the new album is concerned...good things come to those who wait...they are taking their time because they want to make it really really good plus they all did their solo stuff and they don't feel the need to to put out a new album every year or two like they did in the beginning of their career.
3-4 years between albums is not too long...I believe it took AC/DC eight years to put out their new album.
I think because they were being interviewed about Ten is why they were naming some of their favorite songs from that era...of course they like their newer music too!
Just chill the new album will be here before you know it...and hopefully a tour too!
43 is a HELL of a lot closer to 50 than it is to 30..........
hehehehehe......................
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
43 is NOT old...I'm 31...
than i did at 33......
that said....
my next birthday milestone???? 50
and that is a hard pill to swallow.....hehehehehehehee
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I always enjoy reading your posts...they always make me laugh!
thats why i still feel like a kid at the age of 43....
why the fuck go thru life bitching moaning whining and complaining?????
i wake up every morning with a smile on my face.......and hope to spend every day smiling and laughing my ass off....
life is easy.....
as long as you find the time to laugh, smile, make others smile, and just have a good time and enjoy the ride....
*Life according to SPEEDY*
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
AGREED! And there is way too many people on this board bitching all the time! Wait till everyone gets their super deluxe boxes in the mail...this place will be one big bitch fest...."But mine was not autographed..." Nobody is every satisfied!!

Good point. Why can't people jsut be comfortable and happy with what they have. I live like SPEEDY...I guess it's cliche, but I 'seize the day'. There's no reason to waste a day by bitching and whining about miniscule problems in your life. Somethings just aren't worth losing your glow.
Life is awesome...and I just wish more people could enjoy it and take it easy...

Weird mistake.
Somehow mixed up Off Ramp and Drop In The Park.
Anyway, I've never seen Mike mention the Rolling Stones in the context of Pearl Jam not wanting to be like them, but Matt Cameron did indeed make such a comment in a recent interview.

You turned thirty-eight in December. You're now looking at forty, the same milestone many of your peers and heroes had to face: Neil, Pete Townshend, Bruce Springsteen. They all had to hit that wall, as musicians and songwriters, and find a way over it. Are you ready for that?
I feel like our audience has grown up with us. And some of the issues we talk about now -- the core of our faithful are probably going through a lot of the same stuff. Whether the newcomers or younger fans pick up on that, I don't know. There's a song on Who by Numbers that goes, "How many friends have you really got?" ["How Many Friends"]. That was written from a famous guy's perspective. Yet I was relating to that record completely when I was fifteen. I don't know at what age Pete wrote Quadrophenia -- pre-forty, I'm sure -- but he was focused succinctly on teenage angst. I don't think you can do it much better than that.
I could see playing ukulele songs and acoustic guitar and somehow growing old and understanding my limitations, and not feel like I have to jump around at a certain age -- although surfing will hopefully keep me fit.
But I'm amazed at the length of the band. It feels just like life. The thing about turning forty -- it's about halfway through life. So we're just halfway through.

The older bands get, the further between and the worse their albums get.
I just hope they can pull out one more GREAT album that at least gives a booster shot to their legacy.
I'm turning 50 this year , it sucks! . Way past the 1/2 point but enough time to still enjoy 10+ Years of seeing PJ
What You Giving
I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
matt almost 50? :(
8/7/08, 6/9/09
I grew up a huge Springsteen fan and in the mid-90s I resigned myself to the fact I'd never see the E Street Band again, and possibly never see Bruce live again. Here I am now, so oversaturated with Springsteen concerts for the decade that I'm contemplating skipping my first tour since 1988. I think PJ is having a lot of fun playing together right now so I'm confident they'll be around for a while.
PJ73
People can have families and still work 50+ hours a week you know.
Matt and Jeff are both 46 (not almost 50) and 46 IS NOT OLD!!!! I'm almost 32 so does that make me almost 40???
People...40's is the new 20's...they are still young and have plenty more years of playing music!! Just because you turn 40 does not mean that your life is over and it's time to move into a nursing home. Besides, how old is Neil Young??? He still rocks!
And there will be many more GREAT albums!
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
I looked at Matt's year w/o checkin the date. My sincerest apologies.
Add a half decade to your age and I would say to you are pushin 40.
I don't see PJ makin anythin on par with their best stuff. History isn't on their side. Bands don't get better as they get older, they get worse. Neil Young illustrates that perfectly.
