Your favorite Pearl Jam MUSIC

For this we'll leave the lyrics out, Ed's vocal melody out, and all the singing. What is your favorite piece of Pearl Jam music?

Sad gets my vote. That riff is amazing and catchy enough on its own

    Good call!
  • i agree with sad...but there are way to many to decide, or to even narrow down...i'd say "i think sad is my favorite" then all of a sudden someone will say another tune and i'd be like "oh yeah there's that song too!" so i'm playing it safe and not deciding one...but i will suggest ones as i think of them so that you all can get an idea...

a good music song can be Present Tense...so far that's my #1

i've always liked rearviewmirror... it's got it all.... the syncopated opening riff, the punkish ending, the slow breakdown in the middle, which the guys can really fun with and go to all sorts of different places.... the drums go from groovey to fast to mellow in the middle... it is my favorite all-around pearl jam studio track... though i would say Sad is a close second. it still boggles the mind that they left that off Binaural.. wuold've really elevated that record in my opinion but at least we (eventually) got to hear it!

see prime example of my statement...i thought Present Tense and then someone mentions Yellow Ledbetter and i'm thinking, "oh yeah i didn't think of that"

but why would you say it belongs to hendrix?
  • hitmanhitman Posts: 469
cause of the way mccready outlines the chords, with a clean tone and using many double stops and whatnot... very obvious tip of the hat to "little wing" "castles made of sand"... many of the hendrix ballads contained this style. 'cready is the first to admit it, too...

    I didn't say it - I said inevitably others would :)
I think, though as mentioned, is done in the stylings of Hendrix with a similar chord progression even, is different and unique enough to merit it being a different song.

it certainly belongs up wherever "there" is...and present tense too (first PJ song i ever heard live)

In fact, Borgata 2 still makes me cream my pants when i think about the songs that were played that night and just off the top of my head:

    present tense (opener)
    breath (mind blower)
    immortality (jaw dropper)
    given to fly (screamer)
    not for you (rocker)
    dont gimme no lip (stoner)
    ritfw w/ace frehley (closer)
    gone (1st timer)

sorry didnt mean to turn this into a 10-01-05 thread (all the above songs could be in this thread tho :D;) )

Good description. I would add the Alive riff as 1A...and In Hiding as 1B.
