Bono has always seemed like the type of guy who is all talk. I mean he spends so much time lobbying governments to increase their foreign aid to Africa. But when was the last time anyone read a story about him donating any of his giant personal fortune to charity? I mean the original article posted mentioned that U2 made 25 million dollars selling their stock in Livenation.
Plus to top it off wasn't it a few years that U2 moved their corporate home base from Ireland to The Netherlands, because of better tax rates? How the hell can countries like Ireland increase their foreign aid if tax revenue is decreased?
Ah, the brilliant irony. Pearl Jam fought against ticketmaster for the very reason that they have such a dominating influence in the industry, and this merger is now getting attention on how it's going to screw many, many, MANY of the bands who rely on ticketmaster. Maybe this time if someone fights it, they won't get so completely screwed and disowned by the industry like PJ was.
The biggest douche in all of this is the "journalist" who had already decided what the "big story" is.
U2 is promoting a new album and launching a massive tour. My guess is that corporate mergers aren't
top of mind for Bono right now.
If Bono had gone off at length about the merger, I'm guessing the same asshole would rail about
not caring what Bono thought - just shut up and sing. That sounds familiar, right?
And the guy's bias is out there front and center. Anyone who followed the U2 ticket fiasco knows
it wasn't their fault that TicketBastard's system got jobbed. And they certainly have taken steps
to minimize the problem for this tour.
I won't try to convince anyone to like U2. Music is a matter of personal taste. I'm just glad the
haters won't be competing with me for tickets.

Well said. I'm not the biggest U2 fan, but I don't have the hate for Bono that so many do. I think the world would be a much better place if everyone tried to do as much good as he does, douchey rock star or not.
Get on Your Boots is an awful song. Everyone is right about that.

I wouldn't say it's awful and I actually like the main riff, but it certainly isn't the
best song on the album. I would have picked Breathe for the first single (although
not as good as PJ's Breathe ).
As a Fordham Alumni, I got to see U2 perform on campus last week and it was an aboslutely amazing experience however, I just kept thinking about what Eddie said at MSG during the first show this summer.
"We aint got no record to promote we just maybe wanted to have a good time in the summer in NY"
Like I said U2 was awesome but all the promoting was a little much, although if Pearl Jam decided to play at Fordham I know they wouldn't stop at 9am after Good Morning America was over....

I've never understood why people think U2 are such hot shit. I mean, their music is hardly groundbreaking is it? It's just ok rock music that you wouldn't necessarily turn off it came on the radio. Bono's just a half-decent singer with who loves the sound of his own opinions
“Do not postpone happiness”

Lads,
the hand that feeds Bono&U2 is business, not their fanbase, it's a secondary concern to them and they've never ever said one thing and done another, like certain bands, Pj included. Their new tour has super low ticket prices and that's a big brave move for a band that size.
Go easy on Bono. His colours have always been nailed to the mast.
And for all the Vedder worshippers here, check out this quote from last week's Rolling Stone cover story from Eddie about Bono: "He can walk in space without a helmet."
As for someone hating on Bono for wearing eyeliner in a photo shoot, two things: One) it's a photo shoot for Rolling Stone, which are notorious for having rocks stars doing weird crap and 2) perhaps you're struyggling with your sexuality -- which is normal for someone with such a shallow mind.
U2 is more of a force than the Stones. When the Stones release a new record, it barely makes a ripple because nobody cares - everyone wants to hear the old stuff at their concerts. U2 can play stuff off this record and people will actually be able to sing along. Is it their best record ever? No. Their two best albums were the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. Anything after Achtung has been palletable at best, but you need to give them credit. Even Paul McCartney has lost his creative edge. U2 make good albums which are revelent and inspired rather than following the masses or relying on a proven formula. They are what Zeppelin wanted to be.
As far as "Bono's just a half-decent singer with who loves the sound of his own opinions," you don't sell 150 million albums by being a half decent singer and apparently others want to hear his opinions -- the man has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and hired by the New York Times to be a Sunday columnist.

U2 is playing a "secret" show tonight in Boston and the media is making a big deal out of it...I say "WHO CARES!"
U2 is overrated....commerce has blown them WAYYY out of proportion. People treat them like Gods. Wake up people, they are musicians...they aren't changing the world. No matter how much Bono wants to...
IMO, the only thing of theirs worth owning is The Joshua Tree

Bono seems to have an opinion about everything under the sun. But when it comes to a merger that will cost music fans ridiculous amounts of money on bullshit processing fees, etc..., he hasnt really thought about it?!?!? Bullshit.
Comments
Go ahead and try to dispute that, but you know it to be true. Any recent picture of him with that f-ing eye make-up on will prove it.

U2 haters crack me up.
Before there was Pearl Jam, there was U2. Their music saved me as a teen. I'm glad they're still around. Their music is keeping me going through some scary times at 40.
