Are there some songs pearl jam will not play any more because a certain president is out of office?

For example: Bushleaguer...this is a no brainer
World wide suicide...its a war protest song but also rips on the commander in chief.

Also if PJ tours in 2010, will they be able to sing Do the Evolution, what if doesnt go to fire in 2010?

Any thoughts?

He won't want to make Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters upset. ;)

and wws may go "the former president took for granted, writing checks Obama pays" or something. I wouldn't mind if they bury wws deep deep in the ground and cover it with cement.

Mybe Obama isnt listening but we are. Will Ed still bitch about the govt?

P.S WWS is good live..I like it
  • i'm sure he will stop playing the obvious, not so serious, songs like bushleagure, here's to the state, masters of war, etc. but the one's that seem like a more legit songs like Do the Evolution, WWS, etc. will still still be played, maybe he'll bring back bushleagure just for fun on a later date...but i'd say good-bye to "some see george bush as half empty, I SEE HIM ALL THE WAY FULL OF SHIT!" and tags like that

This is why politically dated songs are fucking lame. They're obsolete after a short time. Ed should be more ambiguous with his lyrics. He's slipping in his old age.
  • pj.uw.laurapj.uw.laura Posts: 553
Ed changes lyrics all the time to make them relevant to what's going on.

Take Chicago 2006 when they played Glorified G and made it about Dick Cheney shooting his attorney...
  • justamjustam Posts: 21,412
But I LIKE Bushleaguer! Now, they could just play it for fun. :geek:

I hope they don't stop playing World Wide Suicide and Do The Evolution. I love those songs. I can do without the Bushleaguer song though. I may be the only one but those lyrics just never made any sense to me.

  • If Ed doesn't have his head too far up his ass he is aware that he was duped and Obama's foreign policy is a mirror image of the Bush/Cheney foreign policy...and there is no real change taking place.

I can only hope he isn't as naive as a lot of the people in this country seem to be.

since Do the Evolution was mentioned...

i'm not trying to turn this into some religious-related thread...it's just weird this came up. I came home from work and had this email in my inbox...from a family member. i'm not some bible thumping religious nut. this is just the beginning of the looooong email that the world is "going to fire!!" this is written by some "prophet" David Wilkerson:

I am compelled by the Holy Spirit to send out an urgent message to all on our mailing list, and to friends and to bishops we have met all over the world.

AN EARTH-SHATTERING CALAMITY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. IT IS GOING TO BE SO FRIGHTENING, WE ARE ALL GOING TO TREMBLE - EVEN THE GODLIEST AMONG US.

For ten years I have been warning about a thousand fires coming to New York City. It will engulf the whole megaplex, including areas of New Jersey and Connecticut. Major cities all across America will experience riots and blazing fires—such as we saw in Watts, Los Angeles, years ago.

There will be riots and fires in cities worldwide. There will be looting—including Times Square, New York City. What we are experiencing now is not a recession, not even a depression. We are under God’s wrath. In Psalm 11 it is written,

“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (v. 3).

God is judging the raging sins of America and the nations. He is destroying the secular foundations.

The prophet Jeremiah pleaded with wicked Israel, “God is fashioning a calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh, turn back each of you from your evil way, and reform your ways and deeds. But they will say, It’s hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart” (Jeremiah 18:11-12).

I'm just fucking glad that George W. Bush is no longer our President. I will miss 'Bushleaguer'... but, will glady accept it's loss if it means there is no G.W.Bush shithead running the show anymore.

You are a crazy breed...Your comments are something that taste like a popsicle thats been shoved up somebodys ass.

    No change?...

Ending the war in Iraq is one

Closing the torture camps down is two

Looking to see if torture was used by the Bush people and banning torture is three

Wanting to have talks with countries that could be a threat instead of just going straight to war is four

Obama has been in office 51 days....chill out

ending the war in Iraq?? when did it end??oh you mean he said he was going to end it..while shifting all the troops next door to Afghanistan...and bombing Pakistan several times already..and pulling out of the world conference on racism because Zionism is the prime topic and Obama is in the back pocket of the Zionist Jews..yeah he's all about change..changing his mind to not follow through with his empty promises like every other politician...get a clue dude!

closing Gitmo is bullshit..the CIA will just torture somewhere else.

all these "changes" are a meaningless facade to appease the masses of sheep who voted for him.

as far as "writing checks while others pay..." Obama is writing some nice sized checks himself in his short time in office... my own belief is that Obama fooled a lot of folks with many of his promises, he seems to be doing quite an about-face on so many things already. but then again, he's just another politician, so nobody should be surprised with that.

obama works for the same people bush worked for. and not only is he continuing all the important bush policies (except for a few cosmetic changes), he's even accelerating the demise of this country with these bailouts/stimulus packages. this economic crisis is being engineered by the world's financial elite, and obama, like bush, is just one of their agents.

'worldwide suicide' may be even more prevalent now.

lets all blame Obama now, he has been president for almost 52 days. Give the guy a chance, its gunna take more than 52 days to fix 8 years worth of greed that Bushy and his admin. did to us. Chill out people. Im sure if you had any good ideas, you wouldnt be posting them on a pj message pit but maybe would be in Washington D.C. Give him a chance. The world has come undone...........

Didn't you know... the President of The United States of America is bestowed all of the powers of God Himself. Hell, God made the Universe, the Earth and humans in six days... Obama has had a whole 52 days.
If he wants... Obama can just wave his hand and the Dow shoots back up to 12,000, Iraqis forget about 1400 years of a deep religious divide... and al Qaeda goes into the designer purse making business.

    What?
    ...
    He doesn't?

    Oh, well... nevermind.

considering our iraq policy now hardly differs from bush's, i think pj would be hypocrits for not playing it still.
