My dad passed away two weeks ago (Feb.21) and along with my eulogy I'm going to recite at his memorial, I also wrote a simple poem the day he passed. Here it is:

The Five W’s Of A Father

(who)
A father to me is a wall of strength and stability,
Who never lets you down in time of need.
He is there for you no matter what the time,
A father is 24/7.

(why)
To teach his son, teach his daughter,
What’s right from wrong, all that is moral
He is there for you to show you the steps
How to pick yourself up when he’s no longer there.

(where)
He is at home reading the funnies
In the kitchen cooking the food
He’s there for you during the first year of college
A phone call, an email, you choose

(when)
He’s there for you in the morning
He’s there for you at night
At the crack of dawn when you awake
Or when the lights go out, now close your eyes

(what)
Father is a word that represents all that is love
Passed around from one hand to the next
It stands for more than just a word itself
My father, my dad, the man I’ll never forget
