Has never sounded better than it does on the Benaroya cd... he's pitch perfect all night long. Just goes to show that he definitely still has it... when he's not being forced to rush his delivery because the rest of the band is playing songs twice as fast as they're supposed to ;)

Thats not saying much as Fatal has only been played less than a hand full of times... But I do agree with Soulsinging. Benny hall remains my most played boot to date because EVERY song is fucking incredible. From Eds voice to rocking solos (exclude Mikes fuck up in All or none which is still incredible) to awesome fan interaction through speeches. What a show. Half the songs gimmie goosebumps just thinking about that boot...

Yeah, im listening to Sleight of Hand.... Ed's voice is mesmerizing, and the guitars are so eerie, makes for a haunting yet magical setting and performance. I need to see them more than 2 times :(

i love the way Ed doesnt *oversing* the songs on this show....especially Off He Goes, Thumbing and other songs that were played in 04, 05, 06 etc. in tours after Benaroya Eds delivery on acoustic songs is really over the top, doing that wavering thing with his voice instead of just hitting the note. its a small gripe, but the strength of his voice shines through when he holds it steady. (see the santa barbara acoustic set for example of what i mean)

and when that happens over a whole show, its quality.

I definitely agree with you. That performance of fatal was just amazing, not one single note that was off.
The music for all of benaroya hall is also pitch perfect, it's just a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable performance. And I still always laugh at the few seconds of silence in Thin Air.

Man of the hour played for the first time and still the best out there.

I think the great sound and accoustics in the hall enhanced eddies voice for this particular show.
    I will swallow poison

I was there on the night of and can promise you the hair still stands up my arm everytime I listen to the boot. Waiting in line all day for the possibility of a few released tickets at the time of the show has never been worth it more.

i was one of the lucky ones, and it was definitely a surreal experience! :D

one of these days i need to actually listen to the Benaroya Hall CD (the vinyl is tucked away),...to this day, i've never played it. think i'll save it for a special occasion, like driving between cities on PJ's tour.

That was 2003... and besides.. it was an unplugged show. I don't think anyone thinks he can't sing skillfully anymore. But... people notice the power he has lost on some of the heavier songs.

He can sing songs like fatal really well.
He can still screech out songs like blood and Comatose too.
He just can't belt out like he used to. A lot of the older songs that are inbetween those levels of intensity sometimes sound flat and weak compared to the old days. IMO.

Ben Hall is awesome... but there are so many reasons its awesome. its an acoustic small show so there is less noise and the recording is better. The accoustics in the place are awesome and there is almost an echo going on that really fills out Eddies voice. It makes him sound at his very best.
  • I love everything about this CD. I really wish I had gone to this show.... it's one of my biggest Pearl Jam regrets.
