My father used to live in south Florida, and I would live with him in the summer, and I hated Florida in June, July, and August. That is more of the humidity than the heat alone though. Walking outside everyday felt like walking into a wet blanket. But it was nice when I would stay for a month in January.

Yeah, the humidity is the devil. Sometimes in the summer I get out of the shower and wander over to work, and i'm like, "why the heck am i sweating when all i've done is walk to my car?" then I realize my hair is still wet from the shower an hour later. Fuck humidity, it's not my friend. In fact, I remember a PJ show here (i think it was '98) when Ed said something like, this humidity is messing up my hair! that was fgunny.

I know what you mean... I'm moving from Chicago to Cleveland. Both have shit weather, but at least there's stuff to do here in Chicago :( Once I pay off my loans, I might look into moving to Carolina or the northwest something. I can't stand winter.

The long winter here is the thing that bothers me. It's too long, cold, and gray. Besides, unlike Chicago, this little town I live in is dull.

Congratulations on your new move Justam.

Have never been to FL myself but I love warm weather. I lived in Michigan for about 2 years when a teenager and had my full fill of snow!!!

    Thanks Lizard. :)

Does it help to drink a lot of water when it's humid? :geek:

I hope you like it in Florida.

That sounds really nice. I'll envy you next time it is icy here!

When my dad first moved to the middle part of Georgia, it was nice year round. Seems like the weather changed since he moved there in 1983.

  • Okay, I'll be honest with you. I am originally from NY, then moved to VA, then back north to NH. I spent most of my life in the north and have now been living in FL for almost 2 years. I'm down near Fort Lauderdale (south FL) and I've already had enough of it. The summer is too much for me, I cannot get used to it and start getting ridiculously uncomfortable outside within seconds. I don't want to tell you that it's horrible, because that's not true, it's just not the place for everyone. Lifestyle has a lot to do with it also. The music scene down here is more fit for someone favoring hip hop/rap/club music, so if I go out in search of a good band on a Saturday, the most I usually find is a mediocre cover band. I am also a runner and prefer doing it outdoors, which doesn't work out for me because I get TOO hot. After spending years bundling up for a run, the humidity and heat is paralyzing. Not to mention, there are no mountains so there are no fun trails to explore for runner, nor day hikes. Also, make sure you don't have a job in the service industry. I am a hairstylist and seeing as there are a lot of snowbirds here, I am busy for half of the year with a decent income, then for the other half, I'm screwed. Same goes for most others who work off of commission.

If your lifestyle and career allow you to live comfortably here, then go for it. I, personally, don't like it and cannot wait to get out, but I have friends here who would NEVER leave FL because they love it so much. There's only one way to find out if you'll like it here, so check it out! Good luck to you!
i've been in my mind, it's such a fine line...

I moved from PA to Coastal NC in 2000...best thing I've ever done...while the heat takes some time to get used to, you'll eventually adapt....

for me, when I lived in PA, at 70 Degrees, I'd run around in a t-shirt and shorts...here in NC, after a couple of years of being here, at 70 degrees, I'm pulling out the sweatshirt and jeans...

good luck with the move... :)
  • I live in Charleston SC and I hate it here I have lived in the south all my life, The summers here are
atrocious .it was 80 degrees yesterday WTF  IT'S ONLY MARCH. it really starts getting hot around may. June to Sept you can forget doing anything outside unless you like 90 to 100 deg.heat +100% humidity. There are a lot of days too hot to even go outside IMO .I would love to move up north some where. There isn't spring or fall here,if there is it sure as hell doesn't last very long :)

if you're going to be outside for an extended period of time...then you should always have water on hand! but...i don't feel that it makes the humidity any more bearable. it's awful no matter what you do!! just spend your time outside during the summer months in either the early morning or late afternoon...it's a little more tolerable.

the tampa bay area is pretty...and i'm sure you'll love it here i'm sure :D i say that as i look out my window to clear blue skies, palm trees, and the water!!

I know people say Florida is incredibly hot. I'm sure that's true, but...

Compared to 9 months of snow and gray skies, one month of hellishly hot weather and beaches with blue skies seems like a good trade!!

Who here lives in Florida?! Tell me what you like about it and what you don't... :geek: :ugeek: :D

WOW! congrats AM, very happy for you and your family!

florida eh? better you than me my friend. ;) haha. seriously, florida does have a lot of beauty and i am sure it will be a welcome change for you. definitely waaaayyyyyy too feckin' hot for me tho! however, sweet bejeebus....where you are now has 9 months of grey skies and snow?! :o sheesh! i wouldn't want that either! i like a happy medium.....bout 4 months of each season, and overall...that's what i get. sure, sometimes spring and autumn are a bit short.....and i could definitely do with a cooler, less humid summer....but overall....it's pretty well-balanced where i live, close to a great big city, LOTs of beach, etc....so pretty happy. my biggest complaint is expense! ha! otherwise, pretty damn happy right where i am. perhaps someday the PNW might suit us better, but as family and jobs are here....plus overall suits us well...probably stay put a good long while. but sure, we can visit you in florida.

    all the BEST!!!
    Stay with me...
    Let's just breathe...

The NW ain't bad. You'll get all 4 seasons that start when they're supposed to. Never really below 30 degrees or over 90. Little to no humidity. Good music and more affordable than the east coast or large Midwestern cities (except Detroit ;) )

    Thanks dear! 8-)

You CAN come and visit. I'm excited. I think the area we're going to live in will be pretty and the city of Tampa will be close and it is a more interesting and active city than Rochester that's for sure!

We're looking forward to the new jobs too. :)
