Exact transcript from 101.9 Pearl jam Ten Day of Pearl Jam.
1019 RXP... and welcome to Deep with Pearl Jam, I'm Rich Russo, host of RXP's
Sunday night Free Form Show, Anything Anything. Every weekday morning leading
up to the march 24th Re-release of Pearl Jam's Ten; I will be going deep into
Pearl Jam's catalogue and the vaults..
/10
First up, a celebration of Jeff Ament's birthday today March 10th. Jeff, of
course, one of the founding members and the bass player for the band.
Before forming Pearl Jam, Jeff was part of green river, founded Mother Love Bone
and also a member of Chris Cornell's Temple of the Dog. So happy birthday Jeff
and let's play a deep cut off of Pearl Jam's Binaural album, this is a song
that Jeff wrote both the words and music to, here's God's Dice on 1019 RXP
Song God's Dice
1019 RXP I'm Rich Russo and that was the Jeff Ament written God's Dice, and
tomorrow morning on Deep with Pearl Jam, I will dig out a rare cassette tape
that was only available at Tower Records in San Diego that is very historic in
Pearl Jam folklore on 1019 RXP
3/11
So, I hope you don't consider RXP bad radio because we are going to play a
cassette tape right now, and the bad radio comment is actually true because the
name of the band on this tape is called Bad Radio. The band was from San Diego
and the members were Dave George, Joey Ponchetti, Dave Silva and a guy named
Eddie Vedder on vocals. Bad Radio didn't amount to much although they did
release a demo cassette that was only available at Tower Records in San Diego,
the demo included 4 tracks. Eddie shortly after this would make another
cassette, by inserting his vocals and lyrics over stone gossard's music, and
that of course became Pearl Jam. but right now let's go back to that Bad Radio
demo tape and hear a song called Believe you me on 1019rxp
Song Played: Believe you me
1019 rxp and how cool is that, from the cassette tape by bad radio with Eddie on
lead vocals, that cassette also featured a song that ended up being probably
pearl jam's most known song and tomorrow you will hear a version of that song
recorded in New Jersey and featuring a very unlikely back up band. I’m rich
Russo and I’ll be back tomorrow with deep from pearl jam on 1019rxp .
Its a great promo and tribute to Pearl Jam with the re-release coming out March 23rd.
Nothing to do with the 10 days but Pinfield just played SOLAT from Drop in the Park!
for real?!!!
damnit, i missed it
Now, that I've heard (are you reading this, Guitarhero27?).
Speaking of hearing things (this often happens with the voices in my head), did anyone hear today's segment of Deep? Russo played Not for You from Pearl Jam's '94 SNL appearance. I still like that version best of all because I interpret it as an "FU" to Ticketmaster, right down to Eddie growling "Not for you!" leading into the outro.
Also, Russo teased the Monday installment by mentioning that it would feature a cover song, and said something about keeping it in New York. My guess is that it'll either be a classic rendition of Baba or Free World performed at the '03 or '06 MSG shows, or a Ramones two-for: a tune performed by PJ in the same place where it was originally composed. In that case, Miracles would do the trick.
Sorry for not "outing" myself sooner, kids. I decided to be less of a No Code shill here on the Pit (pardon me: "Community") when I requested a username change.
And tone, especially sarcasm, does tend to get lost in translation at times, which is the only imaginable justification for the existence of these infernal icons: posting.php?mode=edit&f=4&p=2208798#. (Addendum: See? I can't even make one of them appear in my post.)
i knew it was you tony cause of your av. may cant come here soon enough :geek:
Ron: I just don't feel like going out tonight
Sammi: Wanna just break up?
Bad Radio is not what comes to mind when I listen to Rich's PJ segment in fact..it's awesome radio! Keep it up buddy
Here is a question for some real PJ fans...when did Eddie say this..."I am a donut"
The prize for the winner is pride
you should know better than challenging me. Checkpoint Charlie! 3.11.96 for all ur Euro's out there, and 11.3.96 for us lazy american's.
Here's 2 "6-degree's of" for some "realer" PJ fans...yes I can make my own words up:
Connect Eddie to Linda Perry
Connect Eddie to Chris Cornell WITHOUT the Soundgarden/Temple/Matt Cameron degree
let's see the answers.
Dawn Richardson played for both Bad radio and 4 non blondes.
Ding Ding!
And the answer to the other one (i'm sure all of you are on the edges of your seats...)
Eddie was in a band called The Butts, with a drummer by the name of Brad Wilk. Well - he went onto RATM with Tom Morrello (who grew up with Kim Thayl of all people)...and then of course RATM, Audioslave, you get the picture.
Oh, and The Butts recorded a little known cover song, "Daddy I Swear, I Declare" that made its way to some PJ Bootlegs over the years.

wait, so who originally wrote the daddy song...the butts or someone else cuz it seems like you're saying the Butts covered "Daddy I Swear, I Declare" from someone else and then PJ/EV used the Butts cover for PJ's demo rarities collection

It's great that Pearl Jam is getting alot of airplay and recognition with the Re-Release of Ten coming up. Rich is kicking butt and I recorded the segment and did a transcript of the broadcast segment for Monday and this past morning.
3/16
Well I guess every band was influenced by the Ramones and pearl jam is no
exception. Pearl Jam is one of those rare bands that can cover a song and make
it their own, and this Ramones song they are covering has actually popped up
during shows as both an unplugged version and as this more rocking version, so
from July 9, 2003 at Madison Square Garden, Pearl Jam does the Ramones, I
believe in miracles on 1019 rxp.
Song Played: I believe in miracles
1019 rxp I'm rich Russo and tomorrow morning on deep with pearl jam, there's no
lobotomy, and no one is sedated as the Ramones might have suggested, but Eddie
does deliver us a rocker from the avocado that addresses a state of
unconsciousness on 1019 rxp
3/17
happy st patty's day and we're avoiding green disease today to address the state
you may find yourself in after too many pints of Guinness today, let's hope you
don't end up Comatose, here's pearl jam from the self titled album with the
avocado on it, Comatose on 1019rxp...
Song Played: comatose
1019 rxp I’m rich Russo and I hope you enjoy your st Patrick’s Day, and hope
that the Irish eyes are smiling, and in case they aren't tomorrow on deep with
pearl jam, we'll play something off the 4th album to make you grin on 1019rxp
Recap of todays Pearl Jam moment on 101.9 RXP. Transcript for the segment.
3/18
No code was pearl jam's 4th album and didn't receive much fanfare or hype, but
as time goes on, it's now regarded as one of their best, it didn't get much
airplay so basically everything is a deep track, but I have always loved this
song, so here's pearl jam and Smile on 1019rxp..
Song smile
1019 and smile from no code. I'm rich Russo and tomorrow on deep with pearl jam,
we'll play a fan favorite that was one of the first songs the band ever played
together on 1019rxp
when the re-release of ten comes out on Tuesday, we will be treated with some
outtakes as well as some remixes, one of the outtakes will be a song called a
breath and a scream, which is the early version of Breath. In 1998 a fan based
campaign of signs in the audience begged the band to play it live at Madison
square garden, the band obliged. Although originally recorded for Ten, breath
was passed over but did make it onto the soundtrack of singles, so while we
wait for the unheard version on the ten reissue, let's enjoy the singles
version, here's breath on 1019 rxp
Song Played: Breath
1019rxp and when you think about how great the album ten is, you are shocked
that both the song we just heard Breath and State of love and trust were left
off it, but it is what it is and it made the singles soundtrack worth buying
plus the westerberg songs too. Speaking of things left off albums, tommorow on
deep with pearl jam we'll play something that didn't make fans too happy when
it was left off an album, i'm rich russo on 1019rxp
