Please, Ed you can still sing those songs like you did. MAKE THIS ALBUM GRITTY, MAKE PEOPLE SAY.. "AM I LISTENING TO A ten B-SIDE???" Maybe some "Animal" or "Dissident" style songs I don't want Avocado part 2.
I want some McCready SHREDDING SOLOS.. please please.. I hope the album is already 99% done, and it sounds like early 90's PJ.

I'm hoping for a real mellow acoustic album and kind of out there. Perhaps a love child of Yield and Binaural

More important than McCready solos (of which there were several good ones on the last 3 albums), I want to hear a fucking bass guitar again. Whatever happened to the band that had so much groove a la 94? They can't do that funky sound anymore?
So I would love it. ITW obviously will influence Ed's work..and they should also find a mix of hard rocking songs again.
and i think it will.
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
I haven't stopped laughing since I read this .... hehe

That would be nothing short of the greatest thing ever, fo sho.
get some Mandolin in the mix too and get some sort of "Face Of Love" / ITW / Stone recent Solo thing going on. I think if Matt writes a song, he should sing it, and not have Ed making bad songs worse with an over-heavy delivery. (eg Get right). throw a few jams in there guys. proper jams. Stone should get *some* vocal time (his voice compliments Eds really well on some songs).
fuck up the boundaries a little.

The key to a funky album would be a funky drummer which they just don`t have. What happened in 94?
Then you know where the funk went. Don`t want to start a Matt/Dave A. battle. Matt is ok he just can`t funk it out...
I just don't like the fact that Ed is all happy now with Obama winning and hope he doesn't make a bunch of happy go lucky bullshit as far as lyrics go...then again..if he's been paying attention..he might start becoming disenfranchised once again upon learning his new guy is a fraud..though some..ok..a lot of people may disagree with me..Ed's voice of dissent is very important in these times when our freedoms are under attack by the government.{yeah..Bush is gone..but they are still under attack)
...otherwise, I think I'm excited to see where the boys take this album, although I'm definitely pulling for a return to some more energetic stuff...
Something from that era would be pretty cool. A No Code/Vitalogy type sound, but hey, whatever they do will be great.
On another note, I don't know why, but you seem familiar, like I've seen you somewhere. Do you go to school or something?
A-fucking-men.
Yeah, I know. I was listening to Atlanta 94 the other day and it's unreal how much looser and more exciting the band and rhythm section were back then. It's like hearing a completely different band. Matt's ok, but his style is better suited to a more metal sound, like Soundgarden or Tool. Something very precise and heavy. He doesn't do that loose sloppy funky improv like Dave A and even Jack Irons did.
i want to hear some songs that i actually enjoy listening too....
i dont enjoy riot act....
and i dont enjoy avocado..................
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....
This is exactly what I'm hoping for... put the 'jam' back into Pearl Jam. Hearing them talk about where the name came from in the Rolling Stone article got my hopes up that they'd get that back. Hasn't happened yet but I keep holding out hope. Those first two albums were so successful because it was the only rock out at the time that you could also get a groove on to... I miss that! We all know Stone's itching to get his funk on. Army Reserve is the best thing they've done in a while for that very reason.
Like if Yield was in High School when it was released, This album will be Yield in college getting a degree.
*edit* forgot that Ten came out in 1991 when Bush Sr was president so change the above to 5 albums.

If you think age has nothing to do with it, you're nuts. Very, very few bands maintain the kind of creative output in their later years that they typically had in their younger. Maybe Neil Young, but he's about it. PJ is never going to have the kind of output they did in the 90s and it has nothing to do with who the president is and everything to do with their age and lives... they all have families now that demand their time and attention. They don't have the freedom and passion of a 20-something with nothing to do other than focus on making music. They could afford to go from the road to the studio to the road to the studio because they didn't have kids to come home to. Now they do and they want to get off the road, see the family, spend time, and then go into the studio at their leisure. I don't blame them.
