Top 3 bootlegs of shows you didn't go to...

Like most of you out there, I've got a whole bunch of shows that I never attended, but still listen to quite often. What are people's favorite shows they listen to and wish they were there? I'll kick it off (searching through iPod):

1 - Benaroya Hall
2 - Vic Theater
3 - Hawaii '06

and any show in 92 and 2000;p

The tower records 91 show would have been cool too, also anything pre 2000 really.
  • I would have LOVED to be at the Penn State 03 show.

That's one of the few boots I own on CD, and I have to say I'm not a huge fan. The number of songs is awesome, and the improvs are pretty good, but as far as performance and energy, I'm just not feeling it. It might have been great live, but I don't feel like it comes through on the boot.

    2008- Boston I+II

Any concert they played Arc. I saw EV in Washington DC this summer and still get chills when I think about that song. Any live versions???

Also, any thoughts on why PJ does not do more jamming in their concerts? I am of an older generation when groups like the Allman Brothers (Whipping Post), Zepplin (Moby Dick, Dazed and Confused) et al would really extend a song with lengthy jams. With Eddies voice as an instrument I think it would be great to hear a 10+ minute version af several of their songs. So many lend themselves to improv.

Oh well - I am anxious to hear your thougts and theories.

It's really hard to narrow it down to three:

    Top Three:

04/03/94 - Fox Theater: Atlanta, GA
    11/03/96 - Deutschlandhalle: Berlin, Germany
    06/16/00 - Spodek: Katowice, Poland

08/24/00 - Jones Beach: Wantagh, NY
07/08/03 - Madison Square Garden: New York, NY

I don't think PJ has many songs that they can jam out, other than extended solos and lyric tags. I couldn't really see them shifting gears around ala Zep, or playing Evenflow for 25 minutes ala ABB. I just don't think PJ's overall style fits jamming out, too much.

    Um.................

Everyone just remembers "The Experiment" at the Tweeter Center. Back in 03, I went to the first two shows, which was also 4th of July weekend. Those first two were sick shows too. I went to Chicago two days later and missed the final show of the three. Saw three great Cubs/Braves games during my stay in the Windy City, but probably missed one of the best shows ever for our boys. Kicking myself to this day about that.

    Orpheum, Boston, MA 4/12/94

set: Oceans, Even Flow, Sonic Reducer, State of Love and Trust, Hard to Imagine, Immortality/(Hey Hey, My My), Go, Animal, Glorified G, Daughter/(Suck You Dry), Alone, Not for You, Better Man, Rats, Blood
enc: Release, Tremor Christ, Once, Fuckin’ Up, Dirty Frank, Yellow Ledbetter, instrumental jam, Rearviewmirror, Elderly Woman, I’ve Got a Feeling/jam
notes: The crew created this setlist, full of new songs and b-sides.

    Red Rocks 6/20/95

set: Long Road, Jeremy (new), Ship Song, Footsteps, Falling Down, Better Man, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Animal, Tremor Christ, Corduroy, Not for You, Go, State of Love and Trust, Daughter/(This Boy), Garden, I’ve Just Seen a Face (Ed solo), Alive, Whipping, Lukin, Rearviewmirror/Improv (Words Seem Out of Place), Elderly Woman, Blood
    enc 1: Black, Porch, Immortality
    enc 2: Indifference
notes: PJ performs their first six songs seated, experiencing some of the effects of the altitude and taking a different approach from the previous night. ‘Ship Song’ is by Nick Cave. They get frustrated being seated (Stone declares, “All right, “fuck the seats”) and they dump the chairs as they launch into ‘Last Exit.’

Also because Red Rocks is simply the most amazing place to see a concert

    MSG 9/11/98

set: Release, Hail Hail, Animal, Even Flow, Given to Fly, Corduroy, MFC, Habit, Faithfull, Daughter/(Beginning to See the Light)/(WMA), Wishlist, Nothingman, Immortality, RVM, Brain of J, Black, Do the Evolution
enc 1: Breath, State of Love and Trust, Off He Goes, Leatherman, Better Man/(Save it for Later), Mankind, Baba O’Riley
enc 2: Indifference (with Ben Harper), Alive
notes: Returning for the encore and yet another sea of “Breath” signs on ever single level of the Garden

That Atlanta show isn't THAT good. It always makes lists like this for some reason, but it's not that good. A better show would be the week later Boston show at the Orph on 4/12 or the NYC show on 4/17 for sure!

    My top three:

    10/22/90 ~ Off Ramp
    4/12/94 ~ Boston Orpheum
    9/29/96 ~ Jones Beach

i'm kind of glad they don't do the jam out thing. i mean even flow and alive are fine but i want more songs not longer songs. i went and saw dave matthews and don't really like him anyway but it got old to me have 5 or 6, 12 minute songs. just my opinion. of course unless they busted out like a 4 minute version of lukin!
