I have to be in Boca Raton all next week for work, actually it will be mostly sitting around a hotel and doing nothing. Anyone know anything cool in the area? Record shops, cool music or is Boca just an old retirement village? :D

Thanks

I was down there a few weeks ago for work. I stayed at Boca Resort. I spent my time hanging out on the strip by the peir just people watching. You should definitely check that out (by the Howard Johnson) its actually a happening place. Also spent a bunch of time across the street at The Kahuna. Great nightlife, Good place to meet people. Thats pretty much all I know about Boca.

    I live here. Or there.

Yeah...not much to do. If you have a car, you're in luck.

Record stores: Backbone Music in Delray Beach. Radio-Active Records in Ft. Lauderdale.

Plenty of bars in the area. For live music, check out Delray Beach. There is a place called City Limits that has live music pretty much every night; local and national acts. Hell, Bad Brains are playing there tomorrow night!

This is all I can think right at this moment. PM me if you have any specifics.

Yeah, Boca blows ass-donkey. I grew up there, but now I live about 15-20 minutes north in Lake Worth. Jhulud has the right idea, City limits is pretty cool, and just a few blocks west of city limits is a place called Dada -- it's an old house converted into a rest/bar. I think a band called Viva le Vox is there tomorrow night. Dada alwyas has pretty cool music on fri/sat, but can get kinda pricey.

Saturday night (march 8th) a really cool band called Stonefox (kinda like the strokes) plays at Respectables which is about 20-30 minutes north in West Palm Beach.

Boca is mostly old people, so if you dig shuffleboard and bocci, it'll be great.
PM too if you have any more ?'s

  • Boca kind of sucks.

Try Deerfield Beach It's not that far south of Boca. Much better.
I don't know where you are staying in Boca, but if you head south on A1A from Boca you will end up in Deerfield Beach. If you plan on sitting on the beach there, sit north of the pier, usually less tourists and more surfers. Island Water Sports gives free surf lessons and definately try the Whales Rib for lunch

For nightlife I'd recommend heading south to ft lauderdale (aka ft liquordale) downtown
    http://www.tarponbend.com/index.php?src=

    or the beach (a1a)

or to the Hard Rock in Hollywood (some of the bars that used to be downtown are now at the Hardrock) http://www.seminolehardrockhollywood.co ... ys_law.php

If you end up in Delray, check out Elwoods (a converted filling station that has a kickass elvis impersonator and pretty awesome barbeque on Atlantic Ave or Boston's/Upper Deck on A1a (Bostons is sports bar and Upper Deck has great view of the water)

Enjoy, I'll be down last week of March..can't wait

  • Hilarious! I grew up in Boca too but now live in Chicago.

I would say Delray is probably easier and a bit more happening than Deerfield but I moved about 6, 7 years ago. Dada is still around? That used to be terrific and there are some nice restaurants on the downtown strip nearby. What's the bar and restaurant on the beach in Delray called? It has a bunch of Boston sports memorabilia in it? If you just want some good bar food and soak up the ocean breeze that is nice.

Dont forget the rock shrimp... And the bar across Island water sports can be fun but only at night...

Ha! My Dad lives there and still calls it Del Boca Vista because of that show.

Especially since your user name has 'Elvis' in it, check out Elwoods in Delray like Mauichick said. He performs every thursday I think, and it is walking distance to City Limits and Dada and a bunch of other good restuarants and bars.

You should check out Deerfield Beach again if you haven't been there in 6 or 7 years. You'll be surprised. They have added alot.

Boston's on the Beach! I was there once, for NYE and had a blast!

Delray has more going for it than Deerfield, but Deerfield has it's fun spots too, so maybe check out both if you have the time. As a resident, I think a lot of these places get old, but that's because I see them often enough. Downtown Fort Lauderdale is great for bar hopping, and gets pretty busy on weekends and Thursday nights. I live in Pompano (also filled with seniors) so I'm between everything.

For a crummy day, right in Boca is Town Center Mall. It's quite big, so it's good for killing time or browsing. I actually work in a salon there:)
i've been in my mind, it's such a fine line...
