don't know about this
Ska-Punk band Sublime's surviving members are joining forces with "a Southern California singer by the name of Rome," MTV reports.
The band split in 1996 following the death of lead singer Bradley Nowell, just months before their major label debut was released.
k, here's Rome...

  • As usual, I have to say this is not a big deal if the other band members believe in the project and the vision is the same. Since someone mentioned Blind Melon, I'll cite them...when Shannon died, they took the band in a bit of a different direction with a different vision, and so they changed the name of the band (and subsequent projects): Luma / Unified Theory, Abandon Jalopy, etc. Then one day things led back to the original vision of Blind Melon, the band found a vocalist that they believed fit that vision, and they went for it.

People don't seem to complain much when someone aside from the frontman dies. Guitarist or drummer dies, people almost expect a band to carry on...singer dies, and everyone cries foul if the band tries to move forward. By the same token, it seems that if a band does this and sustains itself in the new lineup long enough, somehow that makes it ok for people that used to complain about it...like AC/DC for example.

I agree. Good thing you brought up AC/DC cause that holds alot of credibility within this threads purpose here. AC/DC went on with a new frontman to record one of the biggest selling albums in history according to a wikipedia article I stumbled across a ways back. They are the true assest of this whole band reuniting debate.
You are coreect in that the surviving band members of said band (AIC, Sublime, Blind Melon) have the right to reform as the timing feels right and the musical chemestry is there within the remaining musicians. They all tried side projects and gave the original band a respectable hiatus until it felt right to play with the band again and rekindle that chemistry.
For the die hard fans of AIC for example- they got to see Jerry, Mike and Sean playing the songs they love once again.
Fact is Die hard fans will appreciate the effort and some won't.

The thing about AC/DC is they did not wait to find a new singer. There wasn't a large gap of time inbetween albums. They didn't let the fire dim only to add fuel to it "when the time was right". These newer examples (AIC, Blind Melon, Sublime) all waited over ten years. That's my problem. If these singers would've been replaced immediately then there would be no argument that these bands are pimping their most popular band name. You also got Van Halen changing singers, even though people argue about that.

    Faith No More
    Blink 182
    Limp Bizkit
    Miachael Jackson
    Sublime

(and you also have STP, Blind Melon, AC DC from earlier)

I find it pretty odd that all of these bands decide to come back with this economy.
