  • yesss. i dont even know where to begin. i've only been there once but it was the best two weeks i have ever had in my whole life. i stayed on oahu and it was gorgeous. the first week i stayed in Waikiki at the kahala resort and the 2nd week i stayed at the north shore at turtle bay. both great places that i would recommend. and u have to try surfing! Hans Hedeman gives great lessons. if u have any question i would PM change in waves. she planned our whole trip! :)

Oahu is basically an island with a big city....Pearl Harbor is worth the hassle....but if I had it to do over, I would tried other islands.

We've been a bunch to Maui and usually stay at the Napili Kai, a condo hotel. Not super fancy, no room service, but gorgeous gorgeous beach and very low key. If you want more luxury, you can't go wrong with Four Seasons. We did the Big Island once, did the helicopter trip and saw flowing lava - very cool. Also a day or two in Honolulu would be good. Pearl Harbor was amazing. PM me if you have any questions.
  • man, thanks ya'll, this is getting me excited. i'm planning it as kind of a surprise for the two of us, but i might let a few friends know just to make some things cheaper. and well, we always have more fun when there is a bunch of us. i can be happy just sitting on the beach reading some books for days, but i am equally happy helicopter riding, valcano watching, etc. there is gonna be lots of planning going on soon. once i get a little more bearings, i will prolly pm some of you. thanks

I've been twice and split both trips between Oahu and Maui. If I had to do it over, I'd focus on Maui and maybe do Honolulu for 1 day. You need at least 10 days there to adjust and enjoy yourself.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

went there once a few years ago. a cousin lived out there so i had it cheap=p

my favorite thing i did while i was there?

Paradise Cove Luau.... this should be a mandatory visit. one of THE best things i have ever done=p

also, swimming on the reef was pretty awesome. just DON'T STAND ON THE REEF!

other things i did that were pretty cool

go up Diamondhead and get an amazing view of waikiki. i think i remember the guide saying that most post card pictures of hawaii are of waikiki from diamondhead.

dole pineapple plantation was somewhat interesting.

never got to the north shore to see the giant waves and surfers.

i wish i was in Hawaii right now. NY is expecting a foot of snow and below zero wind chills for the next few days.. ugh

i have been to hawaii 3 times....all to oahu. we have never stayed in waikiki, and i dont think i would want to. it is very busy and crowded and the beach is basically downtown. we usually stay on the north shore and go into waikiki once during the trip for shopping. pearl harbor is worth the trip. i love dole plantation...if you have time for the maze, you should do it (especially if you can break up into teams to compete). haunuma bay for snorkelling...sunset beach on the north shore is my favorite place in the world.

this summer, i am going to maui for a week. just wanted to try a new island.

    have the greatest time!!!

I have been once to Oahu and it was the best vacation ever. I stayed with a friend of mine in Aiea which is near Pearl Harbor. I surfed at Eva Beach which is next to the airport because the waves were pretty calm. Paradise Cove Luau was awesome. I parasailed and jet-skiied which were both great. Hanauma Bay is a must because you get up close and personal with sea turtles and exotic fish. Pearl harbor was very moving and very informative. Skydive Hawaii on the North Shore was the best. The views were out of this world and I got the video so I can watch whenever. I was there 3 years ago and cannot wait to go back, hopefully if PJ announces a tour I can plan a trip and see PJ in Hawaii. To the OP, enjoy your trip and spend as much time as you can there.

Oahu is only worth about 2 days of your time. Enough to visit Pearl Harbor, check out Diamond Head, and travel to the North Shore. After that, spend as much time as you can in Maui or any other islands for that matter. If you go to Maui (which I would highly recommend), definitely rent a car and go to Haleakala for the sunrise and take the road to Hana (you need a whole day for this). My wife and I went last year for 8 days for our honeymoon and wish we would've spent more time in Maui. Next time, we'll be going to the Big Island at the front end followed by week in Maui (no less)

My recommendations, after going there 4 times: Go to either the big island or Kauai.

Stayed at Napili Point in a condo.
    Well worth the extra $.

Hawaii is my favorite place on earth. Kauai is great for a romantic trip. I prefer Oahu because you have the option of many things to do or driving away from the city to more desolate locations. Hawaii is beautiful regardless of where you go.

Hey I've been to Hawaii four times now and to three islands. Oahu, Maui and Kaua'i. They all have their own deal and all are definitely great.

I agree with many of the posts, Oahu is good for about three days. One day travelling up to Pearl Harbour and Sunset Beach on the north shore. On your way back travel the east coast so you get a great overview of the entire island. The zoo and Waikiki beach on day two and Diamond Head are worth your time too! We stayed at the Waikiki Resort Hotel.

It's far from a 5 star hotel but it's only a block off Waikiki Beach if that and within walking distance of everything. You can get a pick up from a rental car company if you ask at the front desk.

Maui is gorgeous and definitely more laid back then the busy Honolulu (Oahu). You need a rental car here there really is no other way around Maui. You can however book outings where they will pick you up from your hotel. Traffic is really easy driving no worries at all there. Haleakala crater for sunrise is a must! I cannot state that enough!! We took a tour through our hotel concierge and it's worth every bit of cash. They provided a really great breakfast afterwards too. The road to Hana was cool but you don't want to drive that baby....take a tour. They call is Honeymoon Dr. on the way there and Divorce Court on the way back for a reason :)

We stayed at the ResortQuest Mahana and were more then pleased. Great accomodations and close to the old town of Lahaina which is a great day trip as well.

Lastly and most recently we just came back from 10 days on Kaua'i. Our favourite island by far! So lush and green and yet even in rainy season we only saw about an hour of rain total over the entire 10 days. Some things you must do is a helicopter tour. I read that if you don't do a helicopter tour in Kaua'i it would be like going to the Sistine Chapel and not looking up and they weren't kidding. Also, a sunset cruise up the Napali Coastline cannot be missed. You can only see it by helicopter or boat unless you are an amazing hiker and want to do 18hrs worth :) Travel to Poipu and get a Puka Dog....these are beyond tasty. Stop at Scotty's BBQ and enjoy a great cheap meal with an amazing view in Kapaa. You definitely want to spend a day at Hanalei Bay. The water is amazing and you can walk out forever and only be armpit deep. Great location to learn how to surf and boogie board without huge waves crushing you. Traffic is a little slow on Kaua'i since there's really only one road to travel on the entire island. The deserted beach at the end of your travel is well worth it though! Waimea Canyon is a ridiculous view too!! We stayed at the Outrigger Waipouli in Kapaa. We feel it was the best location. It's on the east coast and central to everywhere you want to go. 10 days in Kaua'i was good however you could easily spend 14 or more.

Hopefully I've helped a little. Sorry for the long rant, I just love the place that much ;) Pm if you have any questions!!

Just went last year to The Big Island and Lanai.

Lanai is quite and beautiful.. Good for a few days.

Big Island was off the charts interesting. Volcanoes, different topography, etc. Highly recomend time there.
