What is your alarm in the morning?

Last night, I heard my friend's phone ring, and it was the exact sound of doom for me in the morning. I'm talking about the Bells sound on the Iphone. His ringer has been my alarm for a better part of 2 years. I hit snooze on that thing so many times that is has become a sound I hate to hear- so you can understand my suprise and dismay when I heard it in a social setting last night. I realized that a horrible sound to me, might be a good sound for someone else, but the sound of an alarm is kind of a personal thing that nobody knows except maybe your significant other or some skeezer on a Sunday morning. Does this happen to anyone else? What is your alarm?

i had the bells as my alarm for too long. i started sleeping through it. now i use the ringtone for "catch hell blues" by the white stripes & it works like a charm.

I know what you mean, when i was a kid I had to wake up at 5am all week long, we had an alarm clock with a horrible buzzer, now every time i hear that sound i enter in panic mode, i never thought i was traumatized until i heard that sound a couple of years ago in the street, i started to shake in fear .

I just wake to the local radio station. A couple of times I hear a song I hate and shut it off altogether, no snooze or anything. That made me late for work.

it's so funny. I woke up to this Raiders scoreboard alarm clock when I was a kid from about the 4th grade until high school- every time I go home for the holidays and sleep in my childhood room I use that alarm, and when it goes off in the morning I seriously hear that sound and think I'm waking up to go to school.

    BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

There's a t.v. commercial running that has a beep very similar to the one on my cheap alarm clock, and it freaks me out every time. Someday, I'm going buy one of these alarm clocks - http://www.now-zen.com/

I use my cell phone and have it play "Rise" for my morning alarm. It's a perfect way to start the day!

I was going to say the exact same thing....probably the same commercial. a really squawky sounding beep, right? Every time it comes on, I have this angry, panicked feeling, and an instinct to hit something to make it stop.
But I rarely use the actual alarm...usually set it to the radio.

I have mine on a local radio station. The clock is on the other side of my room so I have to get out of bed to shut it off. If reception is good, I'll put it on a country station since I detest country music....that's usually enough motivation to get me right out of bed.
believe it or not, we don't "need" anything. that is only the spoiled brat in us trying to fill some temporary solution to an emptyness that does not exist.

I totally feel your pain, this is right down my alley. I had alarms that if I heard it I cringe. They are generally just too aggressive and they take my from a happy place :D:D to an angry place   really quickly.

Two alarms. One excessively annoying phone alarm that's right next to my bed. Then 15 minutes after that I have an alarm clock go off across the room so I have to get out of bed. Sometimes I still snooze that one. I am not a morning person.

I remember reading about an alarm that rolls to a different place in your room every time you hit snooze. ya, I'm gonna buy an alarm that will make me go fucking ballistic.
I've tried putting it across the room before...I have no problems getting back into bed to go back to sleep. It's actually more satisfying that way.

I just got a new alarm that has a single-touch toggle to adjust the length of 'snooze'. It's great. i'm usually down to two minute intervals by the time I drag my ass outta bed. Problem with it is that the time set is automatic, so I can't set it fast to trick myself into thinking I'm late (like that works).

I'll actually sleep through my alarm clock, so my wife is my alarm that wakes me up.

The sun. I used to wake up to an alarm or radio as a backup, but now that I'm semi-retired and work from home I just let the sun do it. :D Very nice I must say. ;) I don't have curtains as they make me feel claustrophobic for some reason, plus I have to sleep with an open window so the light has pretty much always been my alarm except in winter months.

NPR on the clock radio by my bed. Then, about 20 minutes later, Alive on the iPod alarm across the room. Then, at the last minute, the phone alarm. Unfortunately, I can sleep through all of them at once. :(
  • I have 5 alarms

    1 - Better Man - 07:02am
    2 - Alive - 07:11am
    3 - Evil Urges - 07:18am
    4 - Down - 07:21am
    5 - Even Flow - 07:30am

I normally get up after the last one... oh and after Dave's poked me a bit and made me a cup of tea

Our alarm is a buzzt, buzzt, buzzt, sound from the clock radio. There's something awful about it so I feel like switching it off right away. I resent the way it interuppts my dreams!! :?

(But, I don't ever hit the snooze button these days. I just GET UP.)

this morning it was a little girl saying "Hey mama. I have a really really cool idea. How 'bout we go downstairs and watch Spongebob, and have some orange juice." :D
  • I use my phone... I try to pick something I like enough to purchase but won't mind hating after a while, because I usually hate getting up so I'll hate whatever sound heralds getting up.

That being said, right now my phone alarm is Any Way You Want It by Journey.

My ipod/clock radio is on shuffle....you never know what you'll get. All I remember of today's 4:50 wake up is some old Zeppelin of some sort.

P.S. snooze is ridiculous. Get the hell out of bed. NOW!!!
