Tone
Anyone have any comments on Jeff's Tone? What should I expect? The write up in Deep sounded good, but I'd like some feedback before I dl it.
For those curious - I'm an old member, long time lurker, new poster. I've been away for a while and now am catching up with some of the "new" stuff available in here

It's hard to say. I guess it depends on what you're after in a listening experience. There's some pretty artistic stuff on it. A lot of depth. I don't think there's any throwaways ("Sweet Lew"), but to me there's no straight ahead Arena anthems either (so don't go in expecting another "Jeremy"). Tone resides somewhere in between with a bent more towards the artistic side.
All in all, Ament does a great job of producing atmosphere. If you've heard any of his Three Fish stuff then I don't think you'll find some of Tone too dissimilar. There are some fabulous melodies that pop up across this record. I think the production value is pretty top notch. Give it a listen with a good pair of headphones on and you'll hear what I'm talking about.
Personally I'm a huge fan of Ament's contributions to PJ so I'm always eager to hear more of him. It's definitely worth a listen, imho. Definitely worth spending the $ on. Give it a spin.
Here's a pretty fair review, IMO...
