Prank Calls to my Work

Would you all believe that I had an elderly woman prank calling my work phone? Part of my job is to recruit participants for a research study by telephone--which I hate but have no work in the field without doing it. So anyway, I call this lady and can't leave a message because the line just keeps ringing. So I hang up. A few seconds later, and more than twice, this number calls me back. Every time I pick up all I hear is her TV, and then click. Are you fucking serious? Grow up (elderly woman!) or get a damn answering machine. Nobody's playing on your fucking phone.

I'm sorry to complain but that just baffled me. I stopped prank calling before I got to middle school.

We're trying to improve cancer screenings and treatment services for African American seniors. The cancer-related illness/death rate is much higher among that cohort. We're trying to find out why.

I remember calling 7-11's and saying something like "is Josh there?". Then call a few days later, asking "is Josh there?". Over and over. Then one day call them and say "hi, this is Josh, did I get any messages?"

One of my boys randomly dialed a number one night and it was an old woman, who the bastard then proceeded to tell her house was smoking and she needed to get out.

She said: Jimmy, is that you?
Bastard: Yeah
Woman: Now, Jimmy you know I can't walk you got to come get me!
Bastard hangs up

So, there it was in the local newspaper the following week that the FD went on a false alarm to the woman's house. We should go to hell for that one.


Same guy called a woman and told her that her cat had been run over and that he picked up it up and wanted to know what to do with it. She told him just to dispose of it himself to which he said he wanted to buy the cat. She asked why and she said cats were good for making stew out of. She said just take the cat, but he insisted on paying her and finally she agreed.
Bastard: well, you know after I pay you the cops are going to be coming to arrest you, don't you?
Woman: Why's that?
Bastard: 'Cause you been selling pussy
Woman: Aw, you damn fool!

how elderly do you want the participants to be? my friend's husband had a stroke when he was 49, I think he might be 55 now. he can't drive b/c of the stroke, she has to take him places. she survived breast cancer.
I think she is 55. they have really been through ALOT. then they thought he had cancer in his neck.

Gotta be 65, and we aren't studying outside the Baltimore area at the moment so she'd need to be a resident in B'more. And there's other eligibilty questions we'd have to go through as well. It's pretty focused on a set cohort.
