Coldplay's evolving sound Parachutes to Viva la Vida

Not too many people here seem to like Coldplay despite the love that seems to surround the band elsewhere.
Why don't they get praise and such on this board, if for nothing else, than going out of the comfort zone for the brilliant Viva la Vida album?
The first three albums were very similar, very good, but the same formula. And all were huge hits. Instead of going that route for the fourth time, they reinvented themselves. While in no ways is the tranformation Radiohead esque going from Pablo Honey to Ok Computer. But it is a transformation.
These new songs are very anthemic. Very bombastic. Arguably this album is more U2, than No Line on the Horizon is. This is the "lets try and save rock and roll album". One can argue whether or not they succeeded or even if that was the goal, but the fact remains Yellow and Clocks and The Scientist are remarkably different than Lovers in Japan, Life In Technicolor, and Violet Hill.

They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
I liked their first album a lot, and the 2nd one was a grower. Once they started ripping off U2 & Kraftwerk sounds on the 3rd (and latest album), i just got bored. I think U2 uses that stuff well for the most part, with Coldplay it just seems to distract from what could otherwise be a good song.
and to be fair, theyve been writing Anthem-y songs since their first album. (Yellow, Everythings Not Lost). Difference is that now theyre relying on production to make it sound anthemic. on the first album they managed that feat with 4 instruments and 1 voice - thats a feat to be commended.
The main exception to the less-is-more aspect for me is Politik. that song kicks all kinds of ass.
