Octo-Mom... Life? Choice?

I've been kicking this around ever since this shit came out...
I don't want to fixate on Abortion or In Vitro Fertilization... rather, the deeper feelings toward the whole Life/Choice thing. And i realize that neither side wants to claim octo-Mom as one of theirs.. they'd rather drop her like a radioactive bag of shit that's on fire and kick her into the other guy's court... so i really don't want to discuss how obviously fucked up she is because we have already all agreed on that one... but, hear me out...
...
Pro-Choice? Was it her Choice to become a Mother? Of course it was.
Pro-Life? Her perception is... life began the second the egg was fertilized... albeit, in a petrie dish... and not her pussy. Is this true or not?
...
So... what the fuck is it? A Choice to create life... and therefore, it is compulsory that a life must result from it? What if there are 150 more fertilized eggs? Are they all lives? If not... how is that different from a fertilized egg in a womb? Who gets to choose?

big questions. Different when science gets involved. Especially coupled with someone who appears to have some serious delusional ideas. She flat didn't consider offering these last embryos up to a Couple or woman who couldn't conceive.

As to your questions ,, My thought is without being in a ueterus these are NOT life (they aren't growing are they?) They are the basis FOR life , but until they are in the womb , nothing more than cells.

Who chooses? Thats the $64,000 question isn't it? The Doctors do have , I believe , a responsibility to prevent what occured with octodingbat.

What kind of life are these kids and their siblings going to have with all this attention?

Well, they are life of a sort, but no one has any problem pulling out the beans to thin the row so the remaining ones survive well in the garden. Just because it is life (so is a bacteria), it doesn't mean it is a person yet, because it requires the uterus and host organism (mother) to allow it to grow. Either people are going to have to stop growing excess embryos altogether, or accept that some might be destroyed or not implanted.

  • I've been giving that some thought too... I'd imagine that if I were pro life, I'd agree with what she was doing. I'm pro choice and I think a life is created when the woman chooses to allow the foetus to nurture inside her. So I'm glad she had the choice to do so. Once these kids aren't in any danger, where's the harm? And there will certainly be people waiting for her to fuck up so they can remove the kids from her care so I think she'll be well monitored.
