1) excellent pic
2) I love Ed's hat, he looks hottt
3) also my favourite part in Penn's Oscar speech was "I want it to be very clear that I do know how hard I make it to appreciate me, often."
"Don't be faint-hearted, I have a solution! We shall go and commandeer some small craft, then drift at leisure until we happen upon another ideal place for our waterside supper with riparian entertainments."
The hat is silly...if anything it draws more attention to him rather than disguise him..."Look at that guy in that stupid hat - it doesn't suit him at all....Hey! Wait! It's Eddie!!" As opposed to a guy walking down the street in sunglasses and looking like a regular guy...
Anyway, I feel "dirty" for looking at those photos...I wanted to look away! Ed HATES to have his photo taken...
In the Charles Peterson book "Touch Me I'm Sick" which I think is from 2003...Ed wrote the introduction, and he said "I hate getting my picture taken...." Let me find it...
"I love Charles Peterson...
I hate getting my picture taken...
I can't remember what was worse: the feeling that editors [of magazines] and photographers were greedily selling us out, or being bothered that I wasn't photogenic!"
(the latter is in reference to photos being pin-ups on teenagers walls and "shit picture" being on magazine stands...)

first of all it doesn't look silly...second of all..the hat did work because i've been a PJ fan since day 1 and if i was walking down the street and happened to pass Ed wearing that hat i might not spot him!!
Ed mon..every ting irie mon..you gwan smoke wit me mon?

Maybe now he mostly tolerates it....
It makes us all warm and fuzzy inside to think that our favorite frontman is this noble guy and mostly he is. But if you look at how it all started and how he got to where he is now, it's hard to deny the fact that he knew what he was getting into. I'm not saying he asks for it but I don't think it's such a big deal for him. And really this whole papparazzi and stars thing makes you think about how certain celebrities "complain" about getting their pictures taken and yet those same people are on the cover of every trash magazine. So, rather than publicly complaining about it just don't talk about it at all. Case in point, a lot of the bands I like, I hardly ever remember seeing any pics of their families or GFs. How frequently do we see any family pictures of anbody from Pearl Jam or My Morning Jacket for example? So, if you don't want to be in public eye, there is a way to accomplish that goal. You don't have to shout it out to media. What boggles my mind is though, to see how quickly 40-year old female fans become little screaming Tweens when it comes to "pictures where Eddie looks hot". It reminds me that in reality, how we are no different than, say, fans of any boy bands you can think of.

I think that Pearl Jam members have said a few times how they did not know what they were getting into when success happened so quickly - the almost complete lack of privacy.... the harrassment by the media. I don't think it's anything you can get used to...and we all know about Sean Penn's love of the paparazzi...
Anyway, with these photos, yeah, they happened in a public place, but it was a private sort of meeting. Photos at or near public events are one thing, but if they're having dinner or lunch with friends or family, that (to me) is crossing the line...Just because someone is famous doesn't mean they are public property...show a big of respect for their private live and their private moments when they are out in public...
Well, they don't get that many private pictures taken anyway. And that proves my point. If you don't want to be out in the public eye, there is a way not to be. So no need to complain about that. About this particular set of pics, well didn't you notice how it was "friends" Mr. Penn was hugging? So there you go, mission accomplished
The rasta cap rocks by the way
"mission accomplished".....will not use that expression ever again

He does a good job making it look like he doesn't like his picture taken. But I really don't think he cares. At least not anymore
