They hyped the shit out of 'Brother', played it damn near every hour on the hour, and here we are only a week later and I haven't heard it in quite a while. Granted, I'm not listening to the radio 24 hours a day, but it's just like radio to do this. They pulled the same shit with 'Light years', 'I am mine', 'Love reign o'er me', 'World wide suicide', etc...

Just makes me angry. :x

  • Radio stations piss me off. When you want to hear something, they seem to never play it. That's why I have lots of cds. :)

They usually do that with PJ songs. Play it a good amount for 2 weeks. Then nothing.

It's been like that for every Pearl Jam single starting with Nothing As It Seems. Their stuff just doesn't mesh good with the stuff being played on alternative rock radio....thankfully.

Well at least you got to hear it for a week or two. I haven't heard any of the new ones on the radio station that they have on the PA system at work that I'm forced to listen to at gunpoint :x . But I shouldn't complain, I have an office with internet access so I can listen to whatever I want, which these days is usually KEXP

Radio keeps in rotation what they are paid to keep in rotation. If PJ wanted to get in bed with Clear Channel, you would hear Brother on the radio just as much as fucking Nickelback or Kanye West.

That's because PJ hasn't released a single with a lot of staying power in a very long time. WWS was close, Given to Fly did ok... but otherwise you've got to go back to Vitalogy.
  • who cares? who needs radio for pj? it's not like we haven't all heard brother w/lyrics even though the vocals sound rerecorded like wash was on lost dogs. i don't turn on the radio if i want to hear pj; i put on a disc or my mp3 player or sometimes my vinyl.
If nothing is everything, I'll have it all
  • Or it could be like the radio station here where the dj talks about how much their "new single sounds like early Pearl Jam."
  • From Billboard:
Pearl Jam previews the March 24 reissue of its 1991 debut album, "Ten," as the previously unreleased "Brother" debuts on Modern Rock at No. 18. It is one of six new bonus tracks from the forthcoming revamp of "Ten." The album originally spawned four Modern Rock chart hits: "Alive," "Even Flow," "Jeremy" and "Black." The new "Brother" is the group's 33rd Modern Rock entry, second only to U2's 36.

Uhhh...Brother is tearing up the charts. It's already at #18 in its 2nd week. This will be another top 10 hit on alternative radio. I wouldn't be surprised to see this get close to the top again. They are just playing it out in California with some verocity. It's already keeping up with U2's new (much more hyped) single. Relax guys, it will do fine. That is one hell of a first week debut for a b-side.

Yeah, and for the trillionth time I have to hear Bush, Green Day or another band that was popular in 1996. Not that PJ wasn't popular in 96 but I see your point. Most of the songs I hear are from the 90's from bands that have long since broken up. I heard Brother twice in the last 2 weeks and I'm in the car 2 hours a day.

my station does that with their new stuff then goes back to Ten songs on their rotation. like Ten is their only album.

Actually i can't believe radio is still around.

I still think Severed Hand should have been the first single off of Avocado.

I like WWS, but SH is one of the better PJ songs ever, IMO.
