So I just got back from the hospital. My face is swollen, I hurt all over...Gonna pick up some sweet meds shortly!!
Anyways, I was riding on a bike path that I always do. Come around a corner and this older guy is swerving all over the place. I decide to hit the grass and let him by. As I swerve off into the grass, he's got within out handlebars touching, I hit the side of the path and it was lights out!
I'm woken up 20 mins later by a group of paramedics feeling like death. Get hauled to the ER, get CT scans, get the whole work up and I have stitches about my right eye. What the fuck is wrong with people. The guy who I avoided took off and someone else found my knocked out body on the path.
Ugh, what is wrong with people?
I hurt. Bad.
Good thing is my bike didn't get too messed up though.

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12
Glad you're ok!

Really, it's more important that you're going to be okay. Though, that reminds me that before getting another bicycle, I'm going to check out how the hell I can get insurance for it.
What happened to you is totally fucked up. I can't believe they just drove off.
And, what's up with getting hit in bicycle paths???
I was hit in one years ago. I was pretty much just bumped, but it was an older SOLID car. Fucked up my leg and front tire. The kicker was that the old dude that hit me started swearing at me.
I started yelling back, "You're swearing at me!!!!! You hit me and now YOU are swearing at me!!!???"
He quickly realized there were witnesses and started apologizing.
Hope whoever hit you gets his/hers.
I'm glad you're ok and that your bike is ok. What kind of bike do you have?
Did any of the test results come back yet? I've never had anything like that happen to me so I don't have a clue how long that would take in this case. I would hope they'd have them to you asap.

I had a close call once, my godparents son was in front of me as we were going fast downhill on a bike track at a local park and he lost control and fell off and then I had no time to swerve and I went flying.
I missed hitting a wooden pillar on a footbridge by inches and wasn't wearing a helmet.
Boy did it hurt when I got up.
On a separate occasion, my bike landed on top of me, ouch, tried to do a jump and went over the bars as I went into the jump too early and my wheel slammed into the ramp. I remember lying on my back with the mountain bike coming down on me, broke my wheel and had to limp home, arrr the mischief of being a kid lol
Today on the news some cyclist got serious injuries because some asshole threw a full bottle of beer out of a car window at him, unprovoked, now he needs reconstructive facial surgery. Us road cyclists get treated like shit by car drivers.

I ride the train and bike to work in the warmer months. Last fall I was riding between work and the train station on a trail that I usually take. Some asshole put a log at the bottom of a hill and covered it with leaves. I hit it and did a header over my handlebars. I seriously messed my shoulder up. It still hurts some depending on the motion. I probably should have went to the doctor, but I decided to tough it out.
When on the road you have to watch out for the crazy drivers who don't think you should be on the road and make their point by coming with inches when they pass or throwing stuff out the window at you.
If I had more mountain biking skills I would say that single path mountain bike trails are the safest. But considering I can't seem to stay upright when I am on the trail I can't say that either. Although, when I do fall it is usually not serious.
Hope you're feeling better and aren't too swollen... *ahem* pictures of injuries please :P
... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
No I didn't at the time (dumb!). I'm a experienced mountain biker, and I was basically out just for a cruise..."enjoy the day" kinda thing. I figured well, I'm not going off road, I'm quite experienced, there is no traffic to deal with, and it's a smooth path...
Dumb. Fortunately I never really smacked my head, more of a "face meets concrete". Looking back, it could have been much, much worse. Hell, I'm glad I didn't lose any teeth or break any bones.
To the other poster, I have a '03-or '04 (can't remember) Specialized Rockhopper. Great bike! Still in pretty good shape, but it will def. need a tune-up before I can really ride it again.
That was extremely silly.
I had an '03 Rockhopper... damn I loved that bike... rode it into the ground though, cracked the frame and everything  (I got my sites set on a Kona now ) Is your's ok? :?

When my Dad had a horrific accident a few years ago and he was air lifted away, the police took care of his bike and contacted my Mum. She picked the bike and his helmet up the next day from the police station... so I guess if the police get there first (and they're not beaten to it by young hoodlums), they take the property and look after it.

Yeah, it was dumb. Lesson learned.
Bike should be ok, just def. needs a tune-up/some fixing. I took a look last night and it's nothing significant. Brakes, gear adjustment...not too bad.
I hope your dad recovered. Was he hit by a car?
It's the damnedest thing. They actually brought the bike to the ER with me. When I was all scanned, stitched up and ready to go, I realized they rested the bike up against the wall next to my gurney. Got done, pushed it out through the hospital and loaded it up into a friend's truck. On the way to the hospital in the ambulance I asked them (amid drugs and just waking up from my fall) where my bike was. They said, oh, we've got it. I tried to hug the female EMT but my head and body was restrained pretty good at that point.
I will say this though, if your riding on the street path and you are NOT following the rules of the road I cant feel for you. Biggest problem with biking in the City is that you are supposed to share the road and follow the same rules as the cars.
Few small details bike riders in the city seem to forget...
- Stop signs are for cars AND bikes
-The yellow line striped in the middle of the road is NOT the bike lane
-If Im making a right turn, I am NOT looking behind me to see if a bike is coming up on the right side of the car.
Like I said, Im very glad you are OK, just dont see cyclists being all that careful in the city
Peace
He is still recovering now really... it was a horrible time, 128 facial stitches (90 odd of those were internal) and years of therapy... But! he's back on the bike and doing over 900 miles per month again
Thanks for asking

That's funny. Reminds me of an accident we witnessed while in Ft. Myers on vacation a couple of years ago. We saw a guy on a Harley get hit by a car. He had no helmet on and went flying off of the bike. He was unconscious lying in the road. My husband is a First Responder where he works so he went to him. Right before the ambulance got there he regained consciousness - somewhat. He wouldn't let the ambulance take him though until somebody got there to take care of his bike. I think a wrecker arrived and he finally allowed them to take him. Before he was loaded onto the ambulance though he said he wanted to see his bike so they pushed him on the gurney to where his bike was laying.

Holy cow. He sounds like a trooper.
Glad to hear that nothing permanently bad came out of it.
Wow, that is an impressive amount of mileage, especially after going through such a terrible ordeal.
Mmmmm.... Serotta . I'm in the market for a new road bike and I've been looking at a few in the Heritage collection, but I'm probably going to get a Cannondale Carbon Six-1. Serotta's are great looking bikes though.
How are those meds treating ya? :P

Sucks though, I hurt more today than I did yesterday. I suppose that's how it usually works. The 2nd day is always the worst.
