Ipod Classic

I bought an Ipod Classic (120 gb) on the weekend and have experienced nothing but difficulties since my purchase. I was anxious to get my entire music library in the palm of my hand, but after synching with Itunes (windows 64 bit) and disconnecting, I found that my Ipod was empty. Then, when I re-plugged in my Ipod, it wouldn't even show up in Itunes (although, it appears on my F drive) . I uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and I reformated the Ipod, but nothing. I hate Itunes and thought I'd try out Winamp, so I downloaded that, along with he ml_ipod plug-in, and again, nothing. I reformated the Ipod through Winamp, and it finally showed up under devices, but after synching overnight, I again discover that my Ipod is empty.
Has anyone out there with an Ipod Classic and Windows experienced similar problems? Found a solution? Any information or suggestions would be great! When googling, I've discovered that it seems to be a common problem, but can't seem to find a solution and Apple support hasn't been any help. Basically, the Ipod Classic is useless and $250 down the drain if you have a PC.

If you got it engraved, you're out of luck, though... no returns, I think.
If you aren't running the 64 bit version, give it a whirl. It doesn't seem to be available from the main page on Apple's site, but you can get it here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
I'm not sure. I'm not all that computer saavy. Am I supposed to?
No.
Thanks. Knowing it's not supposed to be set to be used as a hard drive is the extent of my knowledge of the subject.
