I'm heading to NYC this coming weekend and looking to explore some good vinyl record stores. I won't have a car and will be staying close to Madison Square Garden. Any suggestions?

There's a few in the west village/greenwich village area, especially bleecker street. It's a few subway stops south of midtown or about a 20-30 minute walk if you're so inclined.

Thanks! Are there any that just shouldn't be missed or are considered NYC icons?

i really like eagle records on bleeker street. its great; good selection, etc. they have another store down the street as well.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Is that the one west of sixth as bleecker begins curving uptown or is that near the east village?

eagle records is the one west of sixth but their sister store is near east village. i personally like eagle better for their records and shit but their other store has some good music stuff.

I'd really like to check this store out but can't seem to find an address online. Is it close to any landmarks or is there any way of easily identifying it while going down the street?

haha sorry dude. my bad. i was calling it by its old name. its now "bleeker st. records." it has this sign right outside that still says eagle records. anyways it's sister store is generation records. i really suggest checking out both. depending on what you like i'm sure you can find it. generation records has more new wave stuff. bleeker st. records is great for classics and ep's though. so there you have it!

That would be why! I've got Bleeker St Records and Generation records already marked on my map. At least now I know they'll both be worth the visit.

Thanks again for all your input!

I was at Bleeker St. last Friday too! Also hit about 5 other stores. It was an epic record day. I really liked Generation. Picked up some great new vinyl.

There was good article in the free paper this morning about the comeback of vinyl.

    http://weblogs.amny.com/entertainment/u ... .html#more

The paper article listed vinyl locations in NY, but I don't see the list in the on-line article. Generations on Thompson is my favorite.

That is messed up cause (and I ain't lyin') I bought Bad Religion Recipe For Hate from Bleeker St. last Friday too! That is just too weird!

I was disappointed that I wasn't able to scrounge up any PJ in the stores in NY but to be honest I really wasn't expecting to be that lucky.
