I lost my father today

My father passed away just after noon today. He had congestive heart failure for several years, and had caught pneumonia around a year ago. For the remainder of 2008, his health had been deteriorating, but he did manage to salvage enough strength to attend his first granddaughter's wedding in November. He was so happy during that night. But after the wedding, his condition worsened to the point where we had in-home hospice care for him. He didn't want to go out in a nursing home or hospital, where he would have been ignored most of the day. He went out on his own terms, which makes me so happy and relieved. He was 82. I love you, dad.
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear the load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take the glad shout: "Here she comes!"
And that is dying.

My friend was going to see Eddie last night. Since he was in Vegas, I gave him 5 Grand to gamble with. I told him I wanted it all to go on Black. Bastard! PhillyCrownOfThorns-11-2-12

I hope you will find comfort in your memories and knowing that he will always be part of you.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
