just got back from seeing the opening date on this tour. Never seen them live before, and thought they were great. As a big fan, I was worried how the music would translate live. in many ways they seem, or seemed, at least to me, to be an album band, the distorted guitars especially, I was really worried, wouldnt translate in a live setting. Boy was I wrong. Sold out show. Crazy crowd. One song Isaac was singing through or into his guitar, holding it up and singing into it.

Alot of the songs, they really jammed out. Which I really enjoyed. Beyond the lyrics, the distorted, frantic sounding music they play is something i really like, so seeing the instrumental parts stretched out was a real treat

If I had any complaints, and believe me, there are very few, it would be their lack of playing Ocean Breathes Salty which is a song I really enjoy and Float on. Now I know their are some fans on here who hate the song, and hate anyone who loves that song, but for me, its personal. I identify with the powerful message of the song.

Do they normally not play Float on? Has it essentially become their Teen Spirit? I know Nirvana hated that song, that the song became too much for them. And in many ways, Float on is the biggest song the band has ever had.

Was also curious as to how Isaac would act. Last year or was it 2007, he seemed to be having a mental breakdown with that whole cutting himself on stage crap, but he was very nice, very funny. One jerk yelled out "play a song" as issac was talking to us, and he really let into him. Another time, he called a guy on stage to help sing a part, the guy had no idea what was going on, and instead of singing into the mic, danced around. As the guy went back to the crowd, isaac laughed and said, "that really couldnt have gone better". And during one, some girl got on stage and started grabbing at him, so he started the song over.

Yeah, I saw them when they came to the Pittsburgh area last year...great live show.

And they play both "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty" live. They have a setlist archive:

They just switch it up every night, sort of what Pearl Jam does, but MM does not play their equivalent of "Alive" and "Even Flow" night in and night out.

And not that I'm one to shell out advice or words of wisdom, but don't apologize for liking their most popular songs. Hell, I never apologize for liking any music that I enjoy. Most of the time a band (and I'm talking about a credible band like Pearl Jam or MM) releases a single, they do so because it is their BEST song on the album.

With all that said, they are an incredible band. I really wish they toured more often. Amazing musicianship. Probably one of the most unique group of musicians playing today.
