Want to grow my hair long....

Any tips? I got really wavy and thick/boofy hair and it shits me how it curls up at the ends, it cannot be tamed.
I've been looking at photo's of people with hair I'd like to have, Rafael Nadal or Eddie Vedder is the way I want to go. So far my hair is medium, up to my eyebrows, half way down my ears and the back part is up to my neck and past my ears.

  • Give yourself an extra 5 minutes in the shower to wash it unless you want nasty, greasy hair. My hair used to curl at the ends until it got past my shoulder then it stopped. Beats me.

    I'm a guy yes.
I don't want it tooo long, not past my shoulders.
I'm just curious to know how do you keep it looking okay in that ''middle period'' where it is halfway between short and long. Does it need to be specially cut by the hairdresser to shape it to grow long or do you just let it grow?

The middle period sucks. You just have to tough it out. Or use gel and look like a tool.

Your hair WILL eventually weigh itself down. I just shampoo and conditioner and leave a bit of the conditioner in. I brush it before going in the shower, and also to work the conditioner in... as well as out. Most of the time I have it in a ponytail, but here it is o' natural. It's untrimmed - just straight across at shoulder length.

i usually don't check out people's pics...but i am always intrigued by guys and their growing hair threads. that said, you have BEAUTIFUL hair! you also are older than i thought you were....funny how that happens sometimes. i really have no idea why i thought you were quite young - not that you look old! :P - but yea......

anyhooooooo....just suffer thru and let it grow, just like we women do. my hair is looooonnnnnggg...but i have bangs, and i am currently in the process of starting to grow them out.   such a pain in the ass. so they either are hanging in my eyes - annoying! - or i have to wear headbands/scarves/bobby pins, what have you, to hold them back. hopefully by june/july they'll be a decent length.

    good luck!
and yes...i am a sucker for a guy with really NICE long hair...so enjoy it and grow it while your lifestyle, and your hairline ;)...allows! 8-)
    Stay with me...

You don't really. I had over a year of my hair looking bizarre as all hell while it went from shaggy to finally being long enough to hang down. In the in between, I just had to live with the cowlicks, weird psuedo-mullets, wings, and whatever other crazy shit the curls did.

Just be sure and take good care of it while it's growing so you don't end up with long hair that's unhealthy. Use conditioner. Get it trimmed regularly to avoid split ends. Keep it untangled and be gentle when you comb/brush it so it doesn't break. If it's tangled, comb the bottom section first and work your way up (i.e. comb the bottom 1/4, then the bottom 1/2, then the bottom 3/4, then all of it). Personally I maintain that my secret to having healthy long hair is to wash it only a couple of times a week and never blow-dry it.

    Good luck! :)

    Thanks for the tips.
I hate explaining how I want it to hairdressers and am embarrassed taking a photo of someone with the hair I want in to the hairdressers.

    The length/style I aim for:

How would I explain that to the hairdresser?????

So far people have told me my hair looks good longer, and it suits me well.

Print out the pictures and take them to a stylist. I have had good luck with this in the past, if there was a particular look I was going for. I am female, and very picky about my hair. I have been letting it grow out again, and sometimes you just have to tough it through the weird stages. But if you take one or both of those pics to a stylist, they can give you advice on how to get your hair where you want it from where it is now.

Thanks, but I'm too shy to do that as I have never seen anyone do that whilst I wait at the hairdressers to get a cut. I'll try my best to explain it lol.

I want to grow my hair long too but I swear my hair grows up instead of down. it's very thick and curly when I let it grow, and right now, it's much longer than what you see in my avatar pic, which means it's time for a haircut. but i'm not cutting it so short anymore.

Yeah my fringe flicks back, curls whatever you may call it, annoys me.
I am going to let it grow a few more weeks then get it shaped/cut to grow long, gotta give the hairdresser some hair to play with....

Wow! Your picture reminds me of a painting of Jesus that one of the nuns at my grade school used to keep on her desk.
    Only your hotter!!!
