I thought the only people that listened to Metallica were dudes with big goatees, shirts with sleeves cut off, bandannas wrapped on their heads, and dirt all over themselves...

    While they work on cars...

With four or five teeth in their mouth...

That's how it is around here, anyway... We call them Schuylks (pronounced skooks), as in from Schuylkill County, PA...

    Lars is an arrogant putz!

    Well said.... leave well alone!!

I think we should be encouraging Metallica to write some decent songs themselves before we put ideas like covering PJ songs in their heads....

    Last good release?

    Load..... and that's tenuous.

    nuff said.
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

That it would, that it would my dear.... *nods*

Wow, way to stereotype. I'm middle class, clean shaven, late 20's, all my shirts have sleeves and I have never nor will I ever wear a bandanna. I have never worked on my car and last time I checked, all my teeth are accounted for. Sorry I don't meet your expectations. Metallica, Pearl Jam and Radiohead are my top 3.

BTW, i'm sure some of you would love to know that Sean Penn is good friends with Lars and a fan of the band. Wouldn't be surprised if that made a few of you suddenly like Metallica a little better.

That is just plain ignorant to write that. Someone could just as easily say that the only people who listen to Pearl Jam wear flannel shirts, cut off shorts, and Doc Martens boots, or are obsessive fat poster freaks (since half the threads on this board are either talking about how 10c needs to make xxxl shirts or about posters) . Of course they would be wrong, just like you are. You don't have to like Metallica, but the fact that they have managed to stay relevant for over 20 years is pretty astounding. I happen to like Metallica (through Load, I haven't liked Reload or St. Anger) and while I don't listen to them all that often anymore, I still enjoy hearing their songs from time to time on the radio.

With that said, I agree with the original poster who thought that STBC would be decent. I also saw that someone said Deep. I think that James Hetfield could really make the verse sound good. I'm not quite as sure that the chorus would go over too well, but those are the two best that I could think of. Maybe Brother with lyrics though too.

You don't have to like Metallica, but if you don't you shouldn't take the time to make bs responses like "Metallica sucks" in a thread that started with an interesting topic of discussion.

    Have a good one,
    Matt
  • true but if they covered a pj song, it wouldnt work really cos their style just doesnt mix well...???

however, respects gotta be shown to metallica (even though i personally dont like them)

they are creative genius....in a non likeable kind of way
  • I would love to hear Metallica cover Elderly Woman just for the comedy that would ensue.

Hey!!! i listen to metallica, and i am very clean cut, AND im from the skook

Listening to other Metallica covers tells me it will only be good if it some song no one has ever heard the original of. Example: Turn the Page and Stone Cold Crazy, two of the more popular songs they trashed. Bredfan and Crash Course In Brain Surgery, two songs they made great has anyone else ever heard the Budgie versions? Thus following this logic the only thing they could do good is to cover a song we've never heard.

I don't really listen to much Metallica anymore but I try to download their stuff for free whenever I can just because they are such assholes.

Yeah they are definitely assholes for not wanting people to steal their music

Yeah I guess they haven't sold enough records over the years to make any profit. I guess it also depends on your definition of steal. If I find $20 lying on the ground and pick it up am I stealing?

The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because this is just a ride." And we...kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok? But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.

I agree. That was the first sond which I had on my mind thinking about the cover
Maybe Do the evolution or Last exit.
But i'm sure which song i wsh i never listen any other band will cover: State of ove and trust. It's like Imagine of J. Lennon - his version is perfect and the only one...
And i can't imagine Metallica with Wishlist... like Britney Spears with "I dont like monday" of Bob Geldof

Actually i agree with Lars Ulrich. They work for it. When U do your job u r not doing it for free. It's the same. So.. i'm a thief... or maybe... i pay in prolongation...
this global phenomen, that we just download the music it's not our alibi. We all steal the music (read - the work who did). Imagine - if sb would not pay U for your work - will U still be calm, or will u try to execute the money?

But that is true, right? Or are you telling me I can start wearing jeans and a nice pretty shirt with sneakers now? Shit, I am so out of the loop.

Anyway, I was just joking about the Metallica thing...kinda...for the most part... I stereotype fans of any band... Pearl Jam fans are middle aged dorky guys with hairy arms and polo shirts and backward hats...all of them. Well, not me.

Well, start chewing some tobaccy and you might lose some of those teef and fit in a little better. (i am joking)

Am I supposed to like Metallica because Sean Penn does, because Eddie Vedder likes Sean Penn....???? I must be some weirdo that does not like everything that Eddie Vedder does, and I certainly do not like things just because someone Eddie likes does...

I'm not, too. I don't like hat's any sort. I'm blond, stupid-as-u-want-me-to-be woman (only if it makes u feel better), maybe middle aged, but not with hairy arms.

Wearing jeans, sometimes pretty shirt, sometimes with make-up (hate the last one...). So... no one knows i'm pj's fan;). But i often declare...
    I like suprising people:)
