After rightfully losing in all their categories for The Brit Awards last night, Coldplay headed over to play War Child charity’s star-studded 15th anniversary benefit (celebrating the release of War Child’s new album Heroes). They ran through a set highlighting the more memorable derivatives that made them kajillionaires before heading into what frontman Chris Martin personally dubbed “The best encore you’ve seen in your life.”
After a brief spectacle, courtesy of Take That frontman Gary Barlow, The Killers returned to the stage (they’d played earlier in the night), and after frontman Brandon Flowers’ ohnohedi’int “We stole this song from Steve Vai, but don’t tell anybody” comment, launched into their color-by-numbers U2 ripoff hit All These Things That I’ve Done. And wouldn’cha know it, the shitpop shaman himself, Bono, bounced onstage to join in.
