Its a really good album. Every song has depth and texture, and its not U2-by-numbers stuff like Atomic bomb was. They've really challenged themselves on this i think, a lot of it sounds like a continuation of the Ultraviolet Light My Way sound from Achtung Baby. Great album, a definite thumbs up here :)

    It's already leaked? Sweet!
  • I'm going to leave it alone now had 3 listens and I love it to bits.

I hope I can resist another unofficial listen and the next will be when it's my 180 gram vinyl spinning on my turntable March 2nd.

Moment of Surrender is the highlight for me, Bono's vocal is awesome, could be his best vocal to date on this album, I love Edge's Gilmour like solo towards the end of the track and you can see why Eno's has gushed over this track so much.

Followed by Unknown Caller & Breathe, White as Snow & Cedars of the Lebanon a chilled but seriously deep

Breathes shows Bono in full Dylan mode talking about a cockatoo and Larry and Adam's playing throughout this album is top drawer.

Some poster on U2.com thought the songs were great but were let down by the production, I can't see that at all the boy Eno & Lanois done extremley well in my book and their best job since their masterwork Achtung Baby, the fact they particiapted as muscians as well as producers appears to have worked dividends for the album.

Great to have the U2 I love back again, I'm proud to be waving their flag loud and proud once again!

Spot on, i've only listened through twice but so far standout tracks would be Moment of Surrender, Unknown Caller and Stand Up Comedy. Its a great album from start to finish. Thumbs up lads! :D

i'm not impressed with the sexy boots song, but i want to hear the rest of the album. i've been feeling bi-polar about U2 in the last 10 years or so. they used to be one of my favorite bands, and probably my favorite band before pearl jam was. on every album since Pop, i've loved some songs and hated others. so i guess this album will be no different.

Yeah, I've let 3 U2 tours go by without having ever seen them... I always had some half-assed excuse. This time nothing will keep me back. I'm stoked for the new album, but I'm holding out to hear the real thing.

Yeah, them along with the Boss have been at the top of my concert bucket list....it would be nice to scratch them both off in the same year. I'm really excited for the album too particularly so since everyone who has heard it is giving it such rave reviews....and even though I think Boots is mostly crap.

No Line is being streamed from their myspace page now:

I'll reserve judgement until i've listened to it a few times...
I smile, but who am I kidding...
  • Cool...I'm two songs in and both -- especially Magnificient -- are catching my ear right away. I've hear enough to say it already tops How to dismantle an atomic bomb for me and I'm not afraid to say that because I hated that album

Probably few will agree with me here but the last great U2 album was POP!!!! I thought the last two were uneven. Reviews of the new one in the Irish press were four stars out of five......so I am optimistic. Damn long time coming, what, 5 years!

Thankfully PJ HAVE NEVER DISAPPOINTED ME.

POP? REALLY? yikes , that was a disaster. although my fav album is zooropa, so neither of us get to see any songs from those albums at u2 concerts. they just pretend like they never happened, especially POP.

I gotta say that i think the new album is great, loving it right away, except that real slow one about hunting with his brother when he was young....

I agree POP was the last great album for me, how people can knock it with songs like Staring at the Sun, Please, Wake Up Deadman and another of my all time fav U2 tracks Gone is beyond me and no I have no problem with the production and didn't see where it improved on the remixes they did for the Best of 1991-2000.

The new album is utterly amazing, the single does it no justice at all, Zooropa was my 2nd fav to Achtung but I think I can confidently say that NLOTH has took spot 2 now.

I'll be surprised if it replaces AB as my favourite album but Moment Of Surrender will defintley be near the top area of my favourite U2 songs now.

I don't what it is about track 3 on some U2 albums but for me now 3 of my fav songs are the 3rd track on each of these albums

    Achtung Baby Track 3: One

HTDAAB Track 3: Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own

NLOTH Track 3: Moment of Surrender

I guess it's just a coincidence or maybe the band do it for a reason.

I love POP, but I don't know how you can say the last two U2 albums were uneven but PJ has never disappointed... s/t was uneven and Riot Act is worse than any U2 album outside October.

I'm pretty excited for both bands' new albums though!

I can't help but laugh when people say that this is a classic album after only a few listens and are comparing it to Achtung Baby. Believe me this is no Achtung and certainly no Joshua Tree. Its good but not great! There is about 5 good songs and 6 average at best songs. After four listens myself I think their last 2 albums were better. Also why are people saying this is so different for them??? I don't here it. Many of these songs could have easily blended well with any of their songs on the last record. It just sounds like a continuation. Also I'm glad to hear Eno & Lenois are finally getting song writing credits on this record! What would U2 be without these guys?

Agreed. There are a few good songs, and the album is starting to grow on me, but....

There are some really amazing buildups to songs that completely die in the chorus. I mean, the chorus just completely fizzles. I don't know if Bono's run out of things to say, or just takes himself too seriously now, but a few of those lyrics make me cringe when I hear them. ATM machine? Passwords? What?

I'm really loving NLOTH (the song), Moment of Surrender, Fez and Stand Up Comedy.

Magnificent could be, well, magnificent, if it actually went anywhere. The arrangement and mixing are top notch, but the lyrics/chorus aren't catchy, and it doesn't seem to go anywhere. There's a lot of buildup and no payoff. I don't need a Walk On or With or Without You, but maybe something on par with Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses? Plus they lifted the drums from Pride (and one review said the chords are from Where the Streets Have No Name). I'll Go Crazy is a fun song and would be so much better without that chorus. Again, so many of the chorus's are forgettable.

The single Boots I thought was an utter mess the first time I heard it. It's growing on me, but it's a mish mash of 3 different songs. It's just all over the place. White as Snow and Cedars sounded terrible to me at first, but again are growing on me.

I expect more from U2 than to have songs grow on me. Then again, I didn't like most of Atomic Bomb at first, and now I love the record. I just don't know if this one can live up to that, no less Achtung Baby! How can anyone compare it to that?! I recently downloaded the B-sides from ATYCLB and HTDAAB, and honestly, a few of those songs are just as good as anything on NLOTH. And those are B-sides.

I'm refusing to listen to it until it's out, but I've been playing their old albums to get prepped. How good is the Joshua Tree? Despite the number of huge hits in the first half, I think it finishes even stronger... Red Hill -> In God's Country -> Trip Through Your Wires = awesome!

I've been listening to this album for a while now and can honestly say:

-Bono's best lyrics are behind him.

-Bono's best vocals are behind him. He hits some notes on this album that made go "WTF? Did he mean to do that?" He needs to take a cue from Vedder, Morrissey...other singers whose registers and vocal range have "changed" over the years and work within the realm of his abilities.

-"Magnificent" may be the best track only because Larry and Adam rock it hard. this is a good album for those two.

-NLOTH is pretty much stadium adult contemporary and nowhere near the "rock" album that the Edge and Bono swear was on the horizon.

-Way too many slow paced songs. The listening is like dredging through muck.

-Don't know who's idea it was to let Eno run wild with the keyboards and synths but they pretty much all but bury The Edge. It's almost like he didn't show up for the recording sessions.

-I wasn't expecting Achtung Baby V 2.0...honest. But I was expecting better than this. It bores me to tears and I'm a "real" fan...whatever that means.

God I hope these songs translate better live and that they don't play too many of those slow tempo songs.

I think the opinion on Bono's vocal on this album is really causing divisions. Personally I think his vocal are top drawer and the vocal MOS is one of his best, as for his lyrics I haven't had a chance to see the lyric sheet so I'll decide when I see them.

Although I like how he's changed his style of writing, as for those who think it's ridiculous to compare this to Achtung, I don't think it is as good as that album but I honestly prefer it to The Joshua Tree already.

You can get a feel for a an album I knew after 4 -5 plays that OK Computer was superior to The Bends and it only took me 2 listens to know VS had blown Ten away.

I guess some people can't see it they think those who do are mad to think such things but I haven't heard an album like this and one that has begged me to keep playing it in ages.

I'm sure I've heard better albums in the last 5 years but this album touches me in a way I just can't put into words how it makes me feel. I love it, if that's mad then I need locking up!

Live perhaps Ved vocally does the nails on a chalkboard thing, but (to my ears) I think he makes good use of what he has in the studio and doesn't overreach. So I'm using Ved as an "approach" to aspire to.

Gotcha. I can sorta see that. I actually think his live problems would be solved if the band would just slow down and stop trying to tear through evenflow, corduroy, and g2f at twice the speed they used to be played ;)

I'm very curious about this U2 album... it certainly seems to be generating more interest than their last one.

I'm not much of a U2 fan, but I do appreciate some of their better songs.

This new radio song - sexy boots or get on your boots or whatever it is called - has got to be the worst single that U2 has ever put out. It is just plain terrible.
