Well, within the last two weeks or so. I saw people talking about it's eleventh birthday so I popped it in and it hit me like never before. I mean, it was always around the middle of top PJ albums, but I'd say it's tied with No Code (3rd) now. And I also can't seem to take Given to Fly off repeat...
Thanks EPOTTSIII!

i hear ya...ive had days where id put on my ipod and just listen to the 2343280 different live versions of the song that i have. those days that just totally suck i find its so perfect to go lay outside staring at the sky just listening to that song, all worries seem to melt away for that instant.

Given to fly is awesome. I love the Live versions. Someone once said on this forum that when it hits the chorus the song explodes. It is so true and I can't think of a better metaphor for it. (That is what a metaphor is right???)

  • When I first heard Given to Fly on Radio1 in the UK there was something so immediate about it. By the time Yield was released it was already well on the way to becoming a PJ classic. Now it is simply the greatest song I have ever heard, along with Find The River by R.E.M.

As has already been said it is a healing song, but so much more than that also. Uplifting, inspiring and so personal to so many people. From the opening guitar that could only be Mike McCready to the crashing chorus that says everything you need to know about why Pearl Jam are the best band on the planet, this song has it all.

And Yield is the most underrated album of their illustrious career to date. Not one single song that you could skip on your ipod/cd player/ car stereo

Yup it's that and Yello ledbetter for me. It melts me away...

Their most cohesive and well-produced album IMO

It's my favorite PJ album. Given to Fly is f'in amazing. The studio verison is so much more subtle and dynamic that live versions. Don't get me wrong. It's ridiculously awesome live, but for listening enjoyment the studio is tops.

It's such a perfect classic album. It's gonna be their Houses of the Holy or Animals. They were on top of the world as songwriters for Yield, imo. The other albums are no slouch, but the Yield songs seem more thought out musically. Lotsa layers to delve into.

This Yield talk is gettin me excited for the new album since BoB is back in the mix.

:o The wobbly effect on Mike's guitar gets lost, Stone's cool "prelude to the thunder" riffage just doesn't sit as well, and Matt's drumming leave alot to be desired. His tom work just don't cut it.

That's not to say it doesn't translate well, b/c it's killer live. They are just 2 different experiences. If ever I am at a PJ show and they somehow capture the majesty of both versions, consider me swayed.

  • Yield got me through one of the toughest times. Making things a bit easier. Plus it reminds me of my hometown, Ventura.

As time passes, No Code seems to be slowly moving up to that #2 spot though ... :D

No, seriously. Yay! Yield is my favorite album and GTF is my favorite song. As much as I flirt with No Code and Vs. and Avocado.. it's always Yield I come home to at the end of the night

I like the singles quote Arcticangel.....and Yield and Vitalogy are my two favorite albums (but to be honest, I think Vitalogy squeaks ahead).
