What does it all mean????

Watched from the window, with a red mosquito
I was not allowed to leave the room
I saw the sun go down, and now it's coming up
Somewhere in the time between

I was bitten, must have been the devil
He was just paying me...
A little visit, reminding me of his presence
Letting me know, he's a-waiting... oh

Red man's your neighbor, call it behavior
While you're climbing up slippery hills
Two steps ahead of him, punctures in your neck
Hovering just above your bed
Hovering just above your bed

I was bitten, must have been the devil
He was just paying me...
A little visit, reminding me of his presence
And letting me know, he's a'waiting, he's a'waiting...
Ooh....

If I had known then what I know now...
If I had known then what I know now...
If I had known then what I know now...
If I had known then what I know now...

  • Well, I don't think it's really that underrated..

Ed wrote it after (during?) getting really bad food poisoning in San Francisco. I'm not 100% positive but they were in the middle of a set and Eddie had to bail, and I guess Neil Young was there so he took over for a bit.

I think Ed said somewhere that it felt he got bit by the devil.. so yeah.

  • I'm not sure it's underrated around here.

    Who underrates it?

Pearl Jam themselves. PJ.com says it's been played only 48 times. Compare that to Hail Hail which has been played 192 times

Thats because Hail, Hail is a better song. IMO.

Do you really want them overplaying it? They have so many songs now, allot of them, even really good ones will have to take a backseat.

Hail hail is played alot because it works very well live!

Jeff has also stated that hail hail is a song that really gets him pumped!

  • My friend used to think that Pearl Jam were vampires. He stated this song (red mosquito) as well as certain lyrics in other songs as his reasoning....................... Seriously
  • I don't think it's that underrated to fans. When they played it in Columbus in '03 the crowd went apeshit.

For a bit!!!! Try an hour and a half. The crowd got so restless they had to play RITFW twice.

It was hot and a total dissaster...at the time we didn't really appreciate Uncle Neil like we would later on.

My favorite PJ song. Love it. Heard it live at the last show I was at for the first time.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
  • I'm still waiting for them to rock Cleveland with this tune when I'm in attendance. I once got a speeding ticket on my wife's birthday while rocking out to this tune.

I love RM, it actually reminds me of a Small Faces song called Song Of A Baker. It also in parts reminds me of Call It Something Nice by the Small Faces. Actually does anyone know if the boys have any influences with them? I know there's the Eddie thing with The Who but some of their stuff does remind me of the later stuff by the Small Faces. If no one has heard it you should, if you like Pearl Jam you will like them trust me. Powerful music mixked with a great voice is what you get ala Pearl Jam.
"First of all, there’s the palpable camaraderie and good feeling you get from the entire band as they smile and nod at each other, and huddle together in various formations throughout the show --- They look like they really like each other. They look stoked!"

I agree. Great tune. Probably my second fav from No Code behind Off He Goes. The LO2L version is great too.
