I just heard on the local radio, the deejay mentioned a RUMOR that PJ will play in Austin, Texas in the year 2009. Anyone else hear any rumblings about this? I put little creedence into rumors on the radio, so I am not getting too antsy yet, but this is the first I have heard about any possibilities of Eddie and Co. coming down south.

Anyone?

they've mentioned that they will be coming down south. Jeff did a live chat a few weeks back and I asked him about it. (i still can't believe that he answered 2 of my ?'s!) let me see if i can dig that up.

me: will you guys ever come back to Texas?
Jeff: we will play tejas in the next ten years, i promise....

i think he answered another question about this as well. i also recall an interview with someone in the band saying something about touring the south. a lot of people thought they were going to play @ ACL last year, but they say that every year. it's been too long since they played a texas leg, so i'd think that the chances were pretty good on this tour. 8-)

Jeff did specifically mention looking forward to playing some shows in the south in 2009 in his interview when Tone was released.

Austin would be a cool place to see PJ. If it's not the ACL, it is definitely a show that I will consider going to.

I'm doing a trip somewhere to see a few shows - either the south or the west coast. It all depends on where they play and the dates. But I would much rater go to Austin, than say Houston

I'd totally fly back home for that. Although I'm not quite sure where they'd play outside of ACL.

What are the biggest venues in Austin? There must be a decent sized basketball area??

i know that the rolling stones played @ Zilker Park (where ACL is held), so that's def big enough. it would be BEYOND AWESOME if they played @ Stubb's. 8-)

I hope this happens, but I am not going to get excited about it right now. The previous few tours all had rumors about Texas that turned out to either be false, or they were legitimate but the band changed their mind along the way.

I hope it happens, I really do, but have been disappointed too often.

The Erwin Center is where major acts play in Austin. Springsteen, U2, Weezer, Foo Fighters, etc. I think it holds around 17,000 for in the round. Around 10,000-12,000 with sections curtained or blocked off is considered sold out.

10-12k might work. It is small for Pearl Jam's standards but I can name you at least 10 places they've played since 2005 with a capacity equal to or less than that.

the stones played at zilker but that's really rare and they were taping a dvd and charged a ton for tix to pay for the park rental. the erwin center would be the logical choice, it holds 15 or 16,000. stubb's would be amazing but they would have to play 4 or 5 nights.

I think I'm the only one but I'm not a fan of Stubbs. It's too long and narrow but I guess it would still be cool. Still a super small venue.

I'm not getting my hopes up on PJ coming to Texas till I have the tickets in hand. The rumors for ACL and the taping of the show was really strong and that didn't happen.

Who knows? If they're touring around the time of ACL this year, it could happen. I'd much rather see/hear them play a full set, though. And if their tour takes them to Texas on the weekend of ACL, I'll be buying PJ tickets, not ACL tix.

I love Stubb's...I've seen some fo my favorite shows there. But I agree that it would be way too small...unless PJ did play ACL, then I could see them playing there as an aftershow.

not the biggest fan of stubbs either. i agree with the long and narrow. but if they were to play there, i would not complain. austin music hall would be a better venue.

Afterparty at Stubbs or ACL taping would be awesome. Whoever said Austin Music Hall would be better probably hasn't been there since they remodeled, the sound is atrocious. I love Stubbs cause it's incredibly easy to get really close by going to the left of the soundboard. Plus they have the most easily accessible backstage area I've ever seen, for all you crazies that want to harrass the band (no comment as to whether I am one of those crazies :)

But ACL Fest is a great start. Surely that means they'll hit other cities in the area (though I've told myself this for about 6 years now and they haven't come close to here yet).
