family tree

For some reason when I’m surrounded by trees
that grew up with my grandparents,
I feel them whispering to me of the ones
I never knew

seed to seed, shoot to infant, sapling to child
a generation’s worth of growth
manifested in the vein of every leaf
every ring of the trunk
every swaying branch beckoning me on,

I feel them whispering to me of the ones
I never knew
"Ah, life is a gate, a way, a path to Paradise anyway, why not live for fun and joy and love or some sort of girl by a fireside, why not go to your desire and LAUGH..."
