Anyone catch them on SNL last night? I loved their previous two albums, both top 10 of the years they were put out. But man I really have to catch them live after having seen them last night! They were awesome!

I missed them on SNL live but I saw them at the Metro in Chicago and they were amazing. Incredible show. They also went on right before PJ at Lollapalooza. I'm still kicking myself for missing them when they came around here in November, but it was mid-week and I had a ton of work to do. Their new album is one of the best of last year.

What do you suggest? The few times I've given them a listen, they didnt do it for me and seem to be the product of some serious overhyping, somewhere along the line.

I'm not even sure of any titles, but just a few tracks off of the last couple albums, plus alot of 30 sec clips on itunes, which I realize is about the crappiest way to sample music.

Yeah, I don't think they're a band that you can really get from clips. It's very groovy, soulful music. I think Return to Cookie Mountain is a great album and very addictive. A great fall/winter album. Their new one Dear Science is great as well, but not quite as atmospheric.

TVOTR is awesome but they didn't sound great on SNL. Golden Age sounded especially bad.

yeah, golden age did not particularly translate well. the sound mix was off with the horns turned way up.

Dear Science sounds like it could grow on me. Kinda reminds of the first time I listened to Radiohead, sounds good just not so used to something so different from mainstream guitar music.

Yeah, it's definitely not mainstream guitar rock. It's a bit eccentric for a lot of people I'm sure, but I love it. Radiohead is a good comparison.
  • staring at the sun came up on shuffle on my ipod today...it was hard for me to not start dancing around!! since i last saw them a couple years ago in orlando, it's hard for me to not imagine a crazy dance party. i really hope they come around florida sometime soon!!
