What role does music play for you as a filmmaker? Do you listen to anything while you're writing?
It's a big part of writing. For Into the Wild, my anchor piece was "Miles From Nowhere," the Cat Stevens song. The lyrics of that song are killer — it's exactly the story. I was going to use that originally in the film, and then Eddie [Vedder] started writing this great music.
At one point, there was talk of you directing a film with Vedder as an actor, right?
Yeah, years ago. It's a script that I wrote. He was game, but at the last minute, he had some concerns. He was in his first marriage, and there was some pretty sexual stuff in the script, and whoever the actresses were going to be — he was a pretty faithful guy and didn?t feel like hurting his wife?s feelings.
Can you talk about the script?
No, because I might make it at some point. I actually talked to Brad [Pitt] about it for some time, too.

424, xxx
sounds slightly erotic...
Oscar worthy performance
Plus, it's not like if he was making out with this actress , that he would be cheating on her! It would be so cool to see Ed in a role like this....But, I bet he turned it down for different reasons that this....and if it is the real reason, I feel bad for him...

Billboard: He said he wanted you to be in a movie, and you turned him down by sending him a song with the explanation as to why?
Yeah. It was called "I Can't." He had asked me and I said yeah, because he can be very convincing. If he thinks you can do something, you start to agree with him. Then I came to my senses. For one thing, it was a great opportunity and I would probably do it just to spend time with Sean. But if you get past that, I always felt like a lot of people watching would be thinking, "Wow, this guy took the job of a working actor" (laughs). Why does he need another job? He's already got a good occupation. That came into play a little bit. I didn't want to disappoint him then, and was happy to get another shot. It was good to have another opportunity to make up for that one when I felt like I disappointed him a bit. I'm glad I got a shot to redeem myself, in an arena that is more, this is what I do. I don't do that other thing, and I've just never been driven in that kind of way.

I agree.....although, I would be interested in seeing Ed with his clothes off
Ed as an actor=NO!
ME TOO!!!
can't find the quote, but apparently Ed was in the drama club in high school and was pretty good.
I don't particularly care for Ed to go down that route, but it doesn't mean he would be crap.
no...it doesn't. sounds pretty crude and disgusting.
