Hypothetical time frame for 09 tour....

CHANGEinWAVESCHANGEinWAVES Posts: 10,169
edited February 2009 in The Porch
Let's say they were to announce a tour next week, when could we look at the dates being?
Is there a certain amount of time between announcing the dates and the start of the tour that is customary ?

I'm just wondering what the time frame from announcing to the tour dates was last time around.

I'm not asking WHEN the next tour will be, just the hypothetical time in between announcing and the starting date. So speculate away!
thanks :)
*I tried looking for a thread about this... the search function stinks :x

I was thinking of this today. If a late August is a release date for new album. I could see a tour with two legs ranging between September and Begining of December. I am not to sure there will be any summer dates.

this makes me think it'll be another small tour.... I don't see them going all out over the holidays and such.
I was hoping for a summer tour since I had so much fun last summer :)

Well, band members have said they won't to a 2-year tour world tour again. Probably like, a month here, a month there, three weeks off in between...Starting in the late summer/early fall... but I don't expect small venues, which is a shame. I'd love to see them in a 1500 - 5000 seat place...

but PLEASE COME TO VICTORIA for a couple of nights....!!!

Not really sure why they couldn't tour in the summer and just play the new songs before the album is out.

The new album could be out in July with a tour starting immediately after the release, much like the 2006 tour. I'd say that July is the earliest that we'll see shows with August/September being the most likely.

Besides some promotional gigs, I personally don't think they are going to start officially touring in the US until 2010. They will definitely land back in Seattle for a 20 year anniversary show in October at a small venue for friends and family and maybe lucky 10c members. Europe and/or Australia will happen before or after that time.

    Just speculation.

It would be very unconventional to release an album in the summer and then wait 6 months or more to tour in support of the album.

I think the next tour will coincide with the release of the new album, whenever that may be.

Sure, I think the album drops in August, September at the latest. With a tour beginning a week or two before it comes out.

A lot of times they announce things a week or two before the tickets go on sale. Then there's a few more months before the shows actually happen. That's why you need to have your money ready to go earlier than you think things will happen.

thats how it was with riot act
released in November, major US tour in spring 2003

I think thats how it will go down unless they finish the record quickly

    september release
small US tour (think seattle LA chicago NY boston and philly)
    break for holidays
    AUS/NS/Asia tour early 2010
Major US tour (possibly europe) including festivals spring summer 2010

just my thoughts, but Id love if they were touring sooner!

I think you are dead on. I was not meaning to say that I expect a full blown tour in 2009. Although it is possible (likely only North America), I think we will more than likely see a small 2008-esque tour with 10-15 shows in the US (in my opinion they will stick to the west coast and the south) this year and a full blown tour next year, including Europe and Australia.

As for Riot Act, it was a little different with a November release. I think the new album could very liekly be released as early as July. And if that is the case, there is a lot more time to tour in 2008, including playing some outdoor venues while the weather is still good.

All we can do is wait and see...

Just book alpine valley for a 2 week slate of show's this summer ! ;):D:o
Do kinda what the allman brothers band does every year. They book the beacon theater in NYC for 2 solid weeks of show's.Then all the fans can come to them and have a nice long vacation in one place!
This obviously would work the best in seattle.I think they should do this every year in seattle.
Book a place and play 10 or so show's at one place.Showbox? Key Arena?
Would we all get in for each show? Probably not,but several show's,possibly.

I reaslly think it's time for pearl jam to start their las vegas residency at ceasar's palace now the elton john is leaving his show on april 22nd forever. How awesome would that be? !!! Cheesy?
It would never, ever happen........but i would be in heaven! ;):o

indeed! sounds like they have the tracks together and its just a matter of how long it takes to for brendan and the band to put the finishing touches on them.

Im hoping its in time for PJ to close the philly spectrum. That would be insane.

Fall sounds perfect for me... My birthday is in Fall; a perfect excuse to see them a few times! I can't wait.

Oh, and a lot of you are saying that the album is going to be released in the summer. Where did you hear that? The article I read in the new RS said the album was going to "drop" in Fall.

Are they trying to confuse us?

Another major factor here is a a potential digital release of the new album. That could push up a release date by a month or two easily. And I don't see any reason why you'd wait for a the physical CD to h it record stores before touring if the album has been made available digitally. For all we know, we'll get the album as soon as May ... or sooner ... anything is possible.

Not really sure why they couldn't tour in the summer and just play the new songs before the album is out.

Because the new music would all be taped and up on youtube before the show is even over, and non-attending peoples' first experience with the music will be through shitty computer speakers off of some terrible phone recording and people will be picking it apart based on an inferior quality experience.

I'd think that 09 might be a quieter year tour-wise. I can see them doing some charity shows, maybe Bridge this year? I could be wrong, but I think there won't be a heck of a lot of touring this year.
