Dropping down their tuning. I was wondering when they would around to doing that. Sure would help Ed out.
Any way to explain what the means to a non-musician? Are there 2 song examples to contrast dropped down tuning to... uh... lifted up tuning?
And to whoever asked earlier, I just don't like the idea of music on phones. I was pissed off when I ran my cell phone through the wash and they couldn't give me one without a camera in it... I just want a phone. It weirds me out the way we're all carrying around mini-computers anymore. And it seems a shit way to hear an album the first time. Call me crotchety... I still listen to every cd I buy on my stereo first. I only listen to digital music when I'm walking around in the city.

He struggles to hit the high notes nowadays. Dropping everything a half a step or whole step could help with that.
Ah, listen to Life Wasted on the album or the 2006 boots and then go and listen to it on the Bonaroo 2008 boot. They changed the key lower.
The only studio song I can think of that is a half step down is Of the Girl. They use alternate tunings a lot and drop D some but rarely if ever drop the whole guitar down.
Lots of band play a half step down - Van Halen with Roth, Alice in Chains, Metallica on the Load records.
so it sounds like they are recording again, which is pretty awesome. but doesn't mr. cohen almost make it sound like the band members are showing up whenever they want and recording their parts? at least mr. vedder isn't there while the band is recording. is that normal? i thought they worked most of this shit together, except for ten, when a lot of the music was written before ed was brought into the group.

Interesting. I love 'Of the Girl' and that version of Life Wasted sounds pretty good. This is intriguing.
I am thinking that with this upcoming album, I kind of want to hold out hearing any part of it until I have the physical CD in my hand. Or, at least until I can hear the whole album in it's entirety.
And please Pearl Jam, play Seattle proper this time around.
Something to look forward to! Is it sad that I kinda live for this?

Just read on NME site that they are releasing the new album by themselves with no record company. Anyone else heard this or is the NME making up blatant lies about them again! They kept calling them a GRUNGE band. NME really has a problem with them. Don't let the truth get in the way of slagging off the best band of the last 20 years.

Go onto nme.com & yes that is what is says. Don't know how this is possible as they have contract with J. Typical NME hate of them.

yes that is what the billboard article posted here says....there is also a thread here with the bands strategy for the upcoming year and it says the same....the j records deal was for avocado only
Well hopefully we don't have to wait for the album to get a tour. Although maybe we'll get another Ice Bowl.

Not to mention most cell phones have very poor audio output so it sounds like shit anyway. I guess it doesn't really matter nowdays, though. What with music being tailored to sound like shit on shitty audio playing type equipment.

Yeah! Nothing wrong with dropping tuning if your voice fits it.
