Apartment Parking Woes

Maybe I'm not the only one here...

I live in an apartment complex and lately there have been problems as far as parking issues. In front of every building there are about 8 spots for the residents of that particular building to park in. It's been fine until recently.

The last couple weeks there have been (and still are as I type this) 2 different cars that have been parked and haven't moved in weeks. One is an older car with a sticker on it that says it was supposed to be towed on 2-3-09. Well that day came and went and it's still sitting there. Another newer type car is parked in the first spot, has been there for weeks now and hasn't moved. Every single day I notice it's still there, in the first spot...and it hasn't moved.

Does anyone else live in an apartment complex and experience problems like this? What are the policies? Are you able to complain/report it to the apartment office and/or the police? I've tried to let this go but it's really bothering me now. The spots are for people who live in the building, not for other people to ditch their cars or whatever the hell they're doing.

We pay rent to live here and deserve to park in our own designated spots without having to park further away and walk further to get home just because some asshole is taking up the spots and not moving.

So, I'm asking...who here has dealt with this or something similar and what did you do? What should I do? Even if you haven't dealt with it personally maybe you know someone that has? Any thoughts/advice/comments much appreciated. Thanks.

Where do you live? These spots in front of the building... are they just on the street? If so, I'm sorry, but tough shit. That's public parking. If it's on your building's property, you ought to be able to call your landlord, I'm sure they have some sort of towing service. But just because the spot is in front of your building doesn't mean it your building's spot. I spent 2 years driving my car in circles in Columbus looking for spots on the street, you get no ownership of that stuff. It's first come, first served.

I left my car on a street north of here about a week ago. Fuck if I'm gonna pay $300 a month for a spot in a garage in downtown Chicago.
  • yeah... if the spots are owned by the building and your lease has a provision about providing a parking space, then complain to your landlord...

Are there signs on the spaces for resident only parking?

I lived for about 3 years in an apt with no parking... talk about a pain in the ass. You could only park on one side of the road, and if you didn't get home by like 7 PM chances are that you didn't have a nearby space. I worked a lot of evenings, so my lazy ass got a ton of parking tickets for being parked on the no parking side because I didn't want to walk 5 blocks.

When I lived in an apartment we had had to a parking sticker. Any car without a sticker and NOT in a guest spot, was subject to tow. The tow-trucks trolled the lot regularly, so we didn't have much of a problem.
