Anyone remember the beach/street hockey league on ESPN?

mid 90's i think? eh, this just reminded me that this country and the TV networks actually cared about hockey at one point.

    Totally random is right. It was part of the whole rollerblade / sun belt expansion after the Gretzky trade to LA....to your point back when the U.S. (or ESPN) cared about hockey. I remember it was kind of slow. The ramp freaked me out. Is on Classic or something?

    no, it's not on classic. i was just randomly thinking about going to a few NJ Rockin' Roller games back in the day, and from there this beach league kinda just popped into my head.

    it was slow, but high scoring. wasn't there also like a 2 point goal? if you score outside the blue line, you were awarded for 2 goals?

    and i can't remember... was it ball or puck?

    I can't remember if it was a ball or stick either. I think it was a ball. I remember the old Roller Hockey League used the puck with the three balls on it to make it slide. I remember one league having a hockey ball, so I think the beach league was it

    Pretty sure it was one of those pucks w/ ball bearings imbedded in it. I think there was a two point goal. I found a site w/ pics.

    No, it was a ball. In one of the photos it has Rob Black doing a ceremonial "puck" drop, but it's a yellow ball.
    Remember this sport, and I loved it. :oops: It was so much fun to watch. and there was a two-point goal. it was set up like a basketball three point line. I wanted to be in that league when I was like 14...

    Wow talk bout a walk down memory lane. Used to watch the beach league after school. I went to a few long island jawz game. I'd play pickup roller hockey in the summer from sun up to sun down and even sometimes into the night

    This thread brought back memories. First, there was this black guy who played with a cowboy hat on all the time. Second, one of the team names was Salsa. My friend and I would always joke around with that like "god, if he keeps playing like that, they'll send him down to Salsa" or "man, where's that guy been, playing for Salsa". I'd give a good penny for a Salsa jersey now.
