Really Burned Out On Music At The Moment

Lately my job has me driving for 2 hours in the morning and 2 more in the afternoon. With so much time to jam out you would think it would be a great, but I've been having trouble finding stuff to listen to. All my normal fall back bands are getting played out, and I can't find anything new that I want to hear. I even went to Best Buy today and shopped around for about an hour. I couldn't think of or find anything I wanted.

I really need some of your help. I need some recomendations for new music to listen to on my long drive. So you know the mood and stuff, I leave my house at 3am so it's dark outside and the streets are empty. Normally I listen to stuff like Sigur Ros, Godspeed! You Black Emperor, and movie scores like The Thin Red Line, Steve Jabolonsky stuff, and Craig Armstrong scores. Every so often I also like to break out some trance like Paul Okenfold and Rabbit in the Moon.

To sum it up, I guess I'm looking for atmosheric stuff that you can zone out to, but is melodic as well. Not to picky am I ;) So, can anyone help me out? All suggestions welcome.

If you haven't listened to the Gutter Twins Saturnalia get it asap. I really can't think of a better album to listen to while driving at 3 am.

Other new stuff I have been listening to a lot would be Fleet Floxes and MGMT. Not so new music but I like to listen to King Crimson a lot when I'm driving too. Good Luck. Hope you get some good suggestions.

Radiohead makes for good driving music. And their style is so diverse it's tough to get bored with them...
I smile, but who am I kidding...

Thanks for all the quick replies. I've got Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai, but I really want to check out the other suggestions. I've been hearing a lot about MGMT, I'm going to do a search for them now.

I've been hearing some good things about A Silver Mt. Zion. Is anybody familiar with them? If I remember correctly the guy that started them is the same guy who started Godspeed.

I'm going through one of those phases where I'm tired of everything on my iPod. I can relate.

I will second the Wilco recommendation. Kicking Television changed my (musical) life.

My roommates gotten me into Zero 7 lately. They're an electronic band, but their songs have a really earthy feel, very atmospheric, great early monring/late night/chill out mood. My personal favorite album is When It Falls, although I've really enjoyed my first few listens through Simple Things as well.

I say dive into the instrumental a little more. Try Caspian, Do Make Say Think, the Drift, Mono. There's a ton of them but i like to drive to all of those.

I don't care for Silver Mt. but some really do. Doesn't hurt to give it a shot. I'm sure you can test drive tunes on last.fm or something
“I know this song so well, I can smoke a cigarette, have a drink, brush my teeth, take a shit, and mow the lawn while singing it. But I'll only be doing a couple of those things during this version.”

Yeah I wasn't a fan of Silver Mt. either. Doesn't compare to Godspeed IMO.

ever think of turning to satellite radio?
  • evenflowevenflow Posts: 401
I actually had Sirius in my other car, but when my wife took it so I could get a new one part of the deal was she got to keep the satellite radio with the car. I really liked it a lot, but to add it to my new car means I would have to get a new CD player. I'll probably do that in the future, but for right now I'll have to settle for enjoying it whenever I borrow the wifey's ride.
