Go find some Black Crowes tabs. Almost all of their songs are in Open G.

The chord forms they use are basically just what you described: the index finger bar with your middle the B string one fret up and your ring finger on the D string two frets up. That's about all I do with it anyway. That gets you through tons of open G songs from the Crowes, Stones, etc.

Faithful is open G isn't it? At least Mike's guitar.

Daughter and Blood are the same tuning, but they are not open G. Daughter and Blood are GGDGBD. I don't know what you call that. Its like open G but the low E string is tuned to G.

Faithful is DGDGBD - that is open G.

How are they any different? They're using the same notes. G, D, B.

Because in Daughter and Blood, the low E string is tuned to G and in Faithfull it is tuned to D. That's the only difference. They may may be in the same key or whatever, but the guitars are tuned differently.

No, I understand that the songs are using different tunings but how are each not considered open G when both played open are a G chord?

OK, I looked it up. That wacky tuning for Daughter and Blood and it is technically called "Open G Alernate". So there you're right. Its just an alternate version.

When you strum the GGDGBD version it sounds higher or something.

Anyway, I keep one of mine in the regular open G all the time. Its fun to play around with and it seems easier to make up tunes.

Cool, thanks. I love open tunings. I like using an open string as kind of a pedal point and then moving through the harmonized scale. You can create all kinds of interesting sounds and tensions.
