So the wife and I have been watching Friday Night Lights marathons via Netflix on Xbox 360 and we kept wondering who does the main theme as well as a lot of the awesome atmospheric instrumentals used in the show. Turns out it's this Texas four piece, Explosions In The Sky. I downloaded some of their stuff off iTunes and am really digging it. Definitely worth checking out (so is FNL - how is this show keeps flying under the radar is beyond me). Any other Explosions In The Sky fans? Wondering how they are live too?

I have 2 of their albums and they are very good. I hear their live show is pretty incredible. I had a chance to see them, but it was at Lollapalooza and I figured they weren't the band that you could get the real experience from at midafternoon in the sun amid a crowd of casual/disinterested fans.
  • if you get the chance to see them, i would highly recommend going. i saw them twice in NYC last year when i was visiting my friends and was completely blown away. such an intense, beautiful show. i would recommend bringing earlplugs though, because it was deafeningly loud. and the beauty of it is, their shows are generally really inexpensive. one of the ones i saw was 12 dollars and the other something like 18.50. you can't get more bang for your buck, unless it's seeing DBT for 12.50 like i am next weekend :D

I saw them on the tube, perhaps Austin City Limits....good stuff, indeed...

Funny Iwas just listening to them and was going to start my 5th thread on how fucking great they are.

    1. THEY ROCK THEIR ASSESS OFF LIVE- saw them at the Congress Theater- WOW you want dudes playing the shit out of guitars and wearing the fingerprints off their fingers this band is for you.

    2. I have all their albums and each one has great songs, Friday Night LIghts has a soundtrack they did with some cool stuff.

    "How Strange, Innocence" (2000)
"Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever" (2001)
"The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place" (2003)
"Friday Night Lights Original Soundtrack" (2004)
    "The Rescue" (2005)
    "All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone"(2007)

of those my favorites are The Earth and All of a sudden.

Memorial, Your Hand In Mine, Catastrophe and the Cure are my favorites. I cannot get enough of them, they are the band I was always looking for- a massively awesome rock instrumental group

Check out the band you won't be disappointed

    http://explosionsinthesky.com/home.php

http://explosionsinthesky.com/contacts.html has links to a bunch of great sites with setlists etc.

they even have some stuff on vinyl!

Seriously they are a band I cannot wait to see live again.

and as the prior post said they will blow your eardrums away fuck they were loud-but in a good way!

  • I love love love these guys!

I have seen them live twice now and they are now a band that I will never miss when presented with the opportunity.

They are about to embark on a wee 10th anniversary tour. Closest show to me is Chicago, but it's the week I turn 30, so I'm considering it.

Anywho.....my favorite song, by far......"First Breath After Coma."

If you get the chance, go see them.....they brought me to tears....

The Redneck Manifesto are well worth checking out folks.

They from Dublin and have 3 albums and are fecking class live.

Their bass player Richie Egan also plays as Jape who should be seen to.

Good recommendation. There are some brilliant instrumental rock groups in Ireland at the moment. my tips:

And So I Watch You From Afar: http://www.myspace.com/andsoiwatchyoufromafar a hard rocking 4-piece from belfast, VERY amazing live, and playing for €8 in Upstairs of Whelans in Dublin this Sunday (3rd May).

    3epkano : http://www.myspace.com/3epkano
a softer group, from Dublin. They record shows and have a knack for doing soundtracks...and they performed a fairly improvised and sensational soundtrack performance live at a screening of "Nosferatu" last week for the Dracula anniversary festival in Dublin. meant to be a fairly epic take on it. shame i missed that.

Huge fan here! Really bummer there isn’t anything on the west coast 😞 Hope this might mean a new studio album at the very least. And hopeful it isn’t the end.

I have been a long time fan and hope they continue. I will admit that I have not been very fond of their most recent releases. I do hope they add more tour dates. It's been a while since I have seen them live.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2
    2024 Sacramento, CA
