Our Lives through Pearl Jam
had this idea to list the albums & then say what was going on in our lives during that time...kind of an "icebreaker" for the new board. yup, it may be silly, but i'm stuck sick at home & i'm a little sick of watching tv!
it's pretty self-explanatory & i apologize if this has been done already!![8-) 8-)](https://community.pearljam.com/plugins/emojiextender/emoji/yahoo/glasses.gif)
here's mine....
TEN (8/27/91)---I was dreading going back to school (starting 8th grade), but I was happy that my catholic school experience was about to end. my sister knew that i was a fan of soundgarden & she heard about Pearl Jam from a friend at art school. She made me a copy of TEN, and I was hooked!
VS (10/19/93)----I had just started my sophomore year of high school & had started playing in a really, really crappy band. I didn't have a car, so my brother took me to Soundwaves in Houston @ midnight. "Go" blew me away right from the start.
VITALOGY (12/6/94)---This came out while I was in Kansas City visiting my sister. (the same one that introduced me to the band) I had taken my finals early & was able to leave for Christmas break a little early. The first time that I heard this record, it was at her apartment and I think I stayed up & listening to it 3 or 4 times that night. (by the way, foxymop scared the crap out of me the first few times I heard it!!
)
NO CODE (8/27/96)----Hands down, my favorite record. This came out right after I moved away for my 1st year of college. I think that I'd been @ the dorms for about 3 days or so when it was released. Me & 2 friends from my hall drove down & picked it up at midnight. My roommate was a 6'11" brazilian basketball player & he had never heard of Pearl Jam. it's safe to say that he heard a lot of their music!! "Present Tense" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever heard....
YIELD (2/3/98)----Amazing record. I had taken time off from school to pursue writing. I was in the middle of my first real "adult" relationship and wasn't really happy with where I was in life. This record gave me hope.
BINAURAL (5/16/00)----I had just started a new job, had started playing a lot of shows, & had finally broken up with my ex after a long, doomed-from-the-start relationship. It was the first time in my life that I was really comfortable in my own skin. "Insignificance" & "Of the Girl" gave me chills...still do.
RIOT ACT (12/12/02)----I moved to a town that actually had other musicians in it (Lawrence, KS) & started a new job. My relationship with my Dad had really started to come together & I had a great job w/ flexible hours so I could write/record & play shows. I was also starting to think that I should go back to school & finish what I started. "Green Disease" was always on repeat.![8-) 8-)](https://community.pearljam.com/plugins/emojiextender/emoji/yahoo/glasses.gif)
PEARL JAM (5/2/06)---This was a tough & great year for me. My Dad lost his battle with ALS and suddenly, Pearl Jam's songs/themes/lyrics took on a whole new meaning. They held me up & gave me some much needed strength & support. This was also the year that I moved back to Houston to help my Mom because she was having really tough time without my Dad. While I was there, I decided that I should finish school. I randomly decided to take a music business class because I needed an elective.....that's where I met my wife. (best decision that I've ever made!!) I also formed a band & we had a great time. We recorded, we toured (well, locally) & it was the right outlet that I needed to get all of those emotions out. "Marker In The Sand" & "Parachutes" still amaze me every time I listen to this album.
UNTITLED (?/?/09)
Life is tough, but life is good. We've been married for 7 months & I've never been happier. We've moved from Houston to Waco (quite a change, believe me!) for grad school. I've been writing & recording like mad lately & I'm excited to play in Dallas in a few weeks.
Their music has truly been the soundtrack to most of my life. I'm sure that it has for you all as well.....
now it's your turn!!
by the way, if I put this in the wrong forum...please move it. i apologize in advance

Vs. Favorite PJ record. Favorite record period. Go would get me pumped up before a tennis match.
Vitalogy: First LP purchase. Nearly blew Dad's stereo up listening to it.
No Code: Freshman year of college. First PJ album I didn't like after my first listen.
Yield: Stood outside for an hour to buy it.
Riot Act: Graduate school. Engaged to my fiance.
Pearl Jam: Thought the cover was a joke.
